Sussex County, New Jersey

Sussex County · Newton · the highland roof of New Jersey still hires a county · not Delaware
Newton is the seat. High Point is the roof. Georgetown is Delaware.
Sussex is a northwest New Jersey county in the Highlands, created 1753 from Morris. Newton is the seat. It is a town around a Square. It is not the capital. Trenton is the capital of New Jersey and sits in Mercer. Sparta and Vernon are large. They are not the hall. High Point is the highest elevation in the state. It is a park, not the courthouse.
This is not Sussex County, Delaware. Georgetown is that seat. That three-county state already shipped unique. This is not Sussex, England. Staff who paste a Georgetown green onto High Street are on the wrong state.
Twenty-four municipalities include Newton, Sparta, Vernon, Hopatcong, Byram, Hardyston, Wantage, Andover, Branchville, Frankford, Lafayette, Montague, Stanhope, and the rest. Paterson is Passaic. Morristown is Morris. Belvidere is Warren. Orange County, New York, is north. Pike County, Pennsylvania, is west. Trenton is Mercer.
This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — High Street court security, process, and a jail this badge no longer operates — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Sussex County.
Five Commissioners. No Executive. Not Sussex, England.
Sussex is governed by a Board of County Commissioners of five, elected at-large on a stagger, with an appointed County Administrator. There is no County Executive. That is not Mercer’s Executive map. That is not Union’s nine-commissioner Manager plan. Delaware’s Sussex is a different state’s Levy Court teaching.
The Sheriff is a constitutional officer, three years, Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2. The board does not hire this badge. Last regular sheriff general was Tuesday, 4 November 2025. Next regular is Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not this oval. Delaware’s Sussex Sheriff is 2026 — a four-year desk in a different state. Mercer — the capital — is 2026. Union is 2026. The Governor is 2029.
Highlands and Water Gap, not the Delaware Bay
The Kittatinny Ridge, High Point, the Delaware Water Gap, Lake Hopatcong’s north shore, and Stokes State Forest are this land. I-80, Route 206, Route 23, and Route 15 are this pavement. The Sussex County Judicial Center lists at 43–47 High Street. The historic courthouse lists at 3 High Street, on the Square. No Lewes beach as this county. No Georgetown green as this hall. Staff who paste a Delaware Bay onto High Point are on the wrong map.
How a Newton public actually files a paper
Each of the twenty-four municipalities has a site. Vernon’s site does not speak for Montague. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for court, process, warrants, patrol, and transport. This county does not operate Keogh-Dwyer as a jail. People remanded by Sussex courts are housed at the Morris County Correctional Facility. The former Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility at 41 High Street stopped housing county prisoners years ago; commissioners have studied sale and reuse. Confirm the live listing. The County Clerk sits in Newton with county government. Do not send a Sparta family to Georgetown, Delaware, for a county paper. Do not send them to Trenton for a Sussex writ.
43–47 High Street is court. Keogh-Dwyer no longer holds a house.
Crime in Newton is often Newton Police. Crime in Sparta is often Sparta Police. New Jersey State Police is the state. Civil process, Superior Court security at the Judicial Center, 43–47 High Street, sheriff sales, and fugitive work are this Sheriff. Jail as a local house is another county’s house, under contract with Morris. Rights do not change at the Montague line. Remedy for town police is the Town. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when ice closes Route 23 into High Point is this count first.
A student who does not treat Vernon as the hall
A student uses town pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing at 39 High Street. The historic courthouse on the Square is a landmark. It is not the whole job. Outreach that only knows one Gap postcard is not doing Montague or Stanhope.
