Three counties. This is the south.
Sussex is Delaware’s southern and largest-by-area county of three. The whole state is New Castle, Kent, and this map. Maryland is a different state. There is no fourth county.
Municipalities include Georgetown (the seat), Seaford, Laurel, Millsboro, Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, Bridgeville, Dagsboro, Selbyville, Ocean View, Millville, Greenwood, Ellendale, Blades, Bethel, and the Sussex streets of Milford and Delmar. Wilmington is New Castle. Dover is Kent.

The Circle is the seat
Georgetown’s Circle is the county-seat square. Superior Court sits here. The Sheriff’s office sits here. Rehoboth is a coastal town. It does not run the county. Staff who treat a boardwalk as the courthouse are on the wrong town.
County Council, not Levy Court, not County Executive
Sussex runs a County Council. That is not Kent’s Levy Court. That is not New Castle’s County Executive. Row officers remain. Towns still run town police, fire, and beaches. Sussex Correctional Institution is DOC. Department of Elections Sussex County Office sits at 119 N. Race Street, Georgetown.
The Sheriff is four years, Article III § 22, 2026 / 2030 / 2034. The Governor is 2028. Municipal clocks in Rehoboth, Georgetown, Lewes, and the rest are town clocks.
Land — Atlantic, inland poultry, Nanticoke
Cape Henlopen, the dune towns, Indian River Bay, Rehoboth Bay — and inland poultry houses, the Nanticoke, and a Maryland line at Delmar. Both are this county. No Legislative Hall as this county’s story. No Wilmington port as this county’s story.
How the public reaches Georgetown
Each municipality has a site. Rehoboth’s site does not speak for Seaford. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for process and sales in Georgetown. A student looks at that town’s jobs page or that department’s jobs page. Outreach that only knows July is not doing Laurel in March.
Courts, SCI, beaches, rights
Crime and fire are municipal or DSP. Jail as a sentenced house is DOC. Civil process is the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Bethany line or at the Maryland line. Remedy for a town police issue is that town. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief in a hurricane is this count first.
