Sheriff Election — Sussex County, Delaware

Sussex Sheriff · the arena · the south hires this row officer in 2026
This is Side Two
This page is the arena for this office. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin. The county as a place is taught at Sussex County.
It is not a campaign. Names belong on the official sample ballot. No crown.
The beach county still hires on the midterm
Article III, § 22: four years. The Schedule of Elections, 2026–2034 marks Sussex County Sheriff in 2026, 2030, and 2034 — the same midterm table as New Castle and Kent. A dune does not rewrite the sheriff year.
- Closed primary: Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
- General: Tuesday, 3 November 2026.
- Take office: 5 January 2027 (Art. III § 24).
- Commission: the Governor.
The Governor is 2028. Rehoboth, Georgetown, Lewes, Bethany, and the other towns hire mayors and councils on municipal calendars — not this oval. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 — a different oval.
Department of Elections Sussex is in Georgetown
119 N. Race Street, Georgetown DE 19947. Not Dover. Not Wilmington. Confirm registration, the sample ballot, and absentee windows on elections.delaware.gov and iVote.
Sample ballot wins
Do not take names from a boardwalk rumor or a poultry-town anecdote.
- Official candidate list / sample ballot — Department of Elections
- iVote
- Current Sheriff of record — official Sussex County Sheriff listing
If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
What you are hiring
You are hiring the Sheriff of Sussex County — civil process from Delmar to Fenwick, sheriff sales, court on The Circle in Georgetown. You are not hiring Rehoboth Beach Patrol. You are not hiring DSP. You are not hiring DOC at SCI. You are not hiring the Kent County Sheriff (that desk attends the Supreme Court). You are not hiring the Governor.
Read the office page for no arrest authority except a Superior Court order.
Remedy when a summer crowd is not the docket
A bad service in Laurel in March is still a complaint door. A sale notice that missed a door in Selbyville is still the courts. Not a comment section. Not a seasonal Facebook group.
Relief when a hurricane takes a dune
Coastal flood, inland Nanticoke flood, a poultry-house outage — this county’s mutual aid first. Kent’s St. Jones is a different count. New Castle’s river is a different count.
Service — papers from Laurel to Bethany
Papers. Postings. A Georgetown courtroom in January when the hotels are dark. Night hours the office actually posts. That is the purchase. Not a beach badge.
Due process at a sheriff sale on The Circle
Confirmation of sale is Superior Court. Notice is the statute. Property still has a hearing in Georgetown, not in a weekend rental.
Rights do not shrink at the Maryland line
Equal protection from Delmar to Fenwick. Counsel. Property. Humane court-ordered transport. A Seaford worker and a Lewes household hire the same Sheriff.
