This is Side Two

This page is the arena for this office. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin. The county as a place is taught at Sussex County.

It is not a campaign. Names belong on the official sample ballotwhen this office is on it. No crown. Do not invent a 2026 name. Do not invent a Delaware name.

Newton hires the Sheriff in 2028

Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2: three years. Sussex last stood in the regular election of Tuesday, 4 November 2025. Bolts puts Sussex with Burlington, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, and Warren on the 2025 + 3 table.

Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not a Sussex New Jersey sheriff general. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 in New Jersey. U.S. House is 2026. Mercer — the capital — is 2026. Union is 2026. Delaware’s Sussex Sheriff is 2026 — four years, a different state. The Governor of New Jersey is 2029. This badge is not those ovals.

  • Next regular general: Tuesday, 7 November 2028.
  • Primary that cycle: confirm the Division of Elections calendar when 2028 posts (odd-year June typical).
  • Take office after 2028: Monday, 1 January 2029.
  • Vacancy before then: Governor appointment, Senate advice and consent, same party (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-102) — not a made-up November 2026 oval.

Clerk sits in Newton — not Georgetown

The County Clerk lists with Sussex County government in Newton. That Clerk is not this oval. Delaware’s Sussex elections sit in Georgetown. That is a different state’s door. Confirm registration and any 2026 other offices on nj.gov/state/elections and voter.svrs.nj.gov. If Sheriff is absent from a 2026 Sussex New Jersey sample ballot, that is the clock.

Sample ballot on a High Point map

Do not take names from a Georgetown rumor, a Vernon comment thread, or a Delaware sample ballot.

  1. Official candidate list / sample ballot — New Jersey Division of Electionsread the live card
  2. Voter lookup
  3. Current Sheriff of record — official Sussex County Sheriff listing at sussexcountysheriff.com

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.

What you are not hiring in 2026

You are not hiring a Sussex New Jersey Sheriff on the 2026 general. You are hiring this desk in 2028: court at 43–47 High Street, civil process across twenty-four municipalities, transport to Morris, not a jailer at Keogh-Dwyer. You are not hiring Newton Police. You are not hiring the Sussex County, Delaware Sheriff (that Georgetown desk is 2026). You are not hiring the Union County Sheriff (that Elizabeth desk is 2026). You are not hiring the Governor.

Read the office page for why Keogh-Dwyer is a closed house.

Remedy on a five-commissioner highland map

A bad service or a sale that missed Montague — this Sheriff’s door and the courts. Five Commissioners are not the substitute for a paper. Not a comment section. Not Vernon as the county. Not Georgetown.

Relief when ice closes Route 23 into High Point

Ice on Route 23, a freeze that closes I-80 at the Gap, a storm that ices Route 206 into Newton — this county’s mutual aid first. Passaic’s Paterson streets are a different count. Delaware’s Georgetown streets are a different state. Newton iced on this highland before. That corridor is still this count.

Service — papers, Judicial Center, transport to Morris

Papers. A High Street courtroom. A night transport to John Street because this county does not operate Keogh-Dwyer. That purchase does not pause because the next regular hire is 2028.

Due process does not wait for an England rumor

A levy in Sparta still needs notice. A sale still needs the uniform procedures. The Constitution does not pause because a visitor thinks this is Sussex, England, or thinks Vernon is the county hall.

Rights from Montague to Byram

Equal protection on the highland map. Counsel. Property. Honest process. A Montague tenant and a Byram household hire the same Sheriff. A Georgetown household hires a different Sheriff in a different state.
