Scott County, Arkansas

Scott County · Waldron is the seat · Waldron is also the large town · Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas
Waldron kept the seat. The 1934 Art Deco is a museum. This is not Davenport.
Scott County, Arkansas, was erected 5 November 1833 from Crawford and Pope and named for Andrew Scott, territorial judge. Waldron has held the seat (the town was selected as the shire; the present town dates from the Featherston survey). Waldron is the seat. It is not the capital of Arkansas. Little Rock is. Waldron is also the large town on this thin map (2020 county: 9,836). Mansfield straddles Sebastian — it is not this hall. This is not Scott County, Iowa (Davenport). This is not Scott County, Kentucky / Minnesota / Mississippi / Missouri / Tennessee / Virginia / Indiana / Kansas / Illinois. Staff who paste Davenport onto First Street, or treat Mansfield as this oval, or file Little Rock as this hall, are on the wrong county.
Places include Waldron and the Mansfield edge. 2020 census: 9,836. About 898 square miles — large land, few people, much of it Ouachita National Forest. This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — remainder patrol and a house this badge still holds in Waldron — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Scott County.
Nine Justices at 190 West First. They fund. They do not hire the Sheriff.
Scott is a County Judge plus a nine-member Quorum Court. They fund roads, detention, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Waldron City Council is a city body. The Iowa Legislature sits in Des Moines. The Arkansas General Assembly sits in Little Rock. None of those is this Quorum Court.
The live courthouse lists at 190 West First Street, Waldron, AR 72958 — 1994–1996, the seventh building to house this government (three of the seven burned). The Old Scott County Courthouse (1934 Art Deco, WPA) on the historic square is now the Scott County Museum of History — not the live court. County Clerk and Circuit Clerk are combined at 190 West First (Association of Arkansas Counties). Confirm live doors before you drive. Davenport is Iowa. Little Rock is Pulaski.
The Sheriff is four years, Article 7, § 46 / Amendment 95, on the gubernatorial table. Last regular Tuesday, 8 November 2022. Next regular Tuesday, 3 November 2026. Preferential primary Tuesday, 3 March 2026 (already sat). Take office 1 January 2027 (A.C.A. § 21-1-102). The Governor is 2026. That is a different desk in Little Rock. Justices of the Peace are two years.
Ouachita forest, the Poteau, an Oklahoma wall. Little Rock is the capital.
West Arkansas Ouachitas. Ouachita National Forest covers much of this county. The Poteau River sits on this map. U.S. 71 is a through road — that highway is not this hall. Oklahoma is the west wall — Le Flore County is that state, not this oval. Sebastian is north — Fort Smith / Greenwood are those halls; Mansfield’s edge is not a second seat. Logan and Yell are northeast. Montgomery and Polk are south — Mount Ida and Mena are those halls. Staff who paste Davenport onto First Street, or treat Mansfield as this oval, or file Fort Smith as this hall, are on the wrong county.
How a Waldron public finds West First
Courthouse / combined Clerk: 190 West First Street, Waldron, AR 72958 — Judge (479) 637-2155, Clerk (479) 637-2642. Sheriff: 100 West First Street, Waldron, AR 72958 — office (479) 637-4156, jail (479) 637-4155. ASA also lists detention at 380 Featherstone Street. Confirm the live house before you drive — 100 West First, 190 West First, and Featherstone have all been printed. A student who only knows a Davenport postcard, or a Fort Smith photograph, or the 1934 museum square as the live court, has not found this campus.
Seventy-two beds in Waldron. The 1908 stone jail is a landmark. ADC is not this house.
Crime in unincorporated Scott — forest roads, the Mansfield remainder on this side of the line, Poteau country — is this Sheriff. Crime in Waldron is often Waldron Police (479) 637-3103. This Sheriff is not that badge. ASA lists a 72-bed house for males and females. That house is this badge’s shop. It is not ADC. The 1908 Old Scott County Jail (block and stone) is a historic landmark, later a library — not the live house. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to Davenport, to Fort Smith, or to the museum square as this oval.
Civil process and court security at 190 West First are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at an Oklahoma line. Remedy for Waldron Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when a forest road ices is this count first.
What this Ouachita county actually watches from Waldron
Court calendars at 190 West First. Ice on U.S. 71. A wreck on a forest road. High water on the Poteau. A night road toward the Oklahoma wall. Coordination with Waldron Police and ASP without becoming those departments. Coordination with Sebastian’s Sheriff or Polk’s Sheriff is mutual aid between two offices, not a merger, and not a reason to file Fort Smith or Mena as this hall. A Davenport photograph does not steal the seat. Little Rock remains the capital. Waldron remains the hall.
