San Bernardino County · San Bernardino the city is the seat · Sacramento is the capital of California · Ontario is a city · Victorville is a city · Los Angeles is a different county

San Bernardino the city is the seat. Sacramento is the capital. This is not Los Angeles.

San Bernardino County, California, was created 26 April 1853 from Los Angeles, and named for the San Bernardino valley and mountains. It is the largest county by land in California. San Bernardino the city is the county seat. Sacramento is the capital of California. San Bernardino is not the capital. Los Angeles is not this oval. Do not read this page as Autauga-with-a-mountain. Do not read this page as Los Angeles-with-a-desert. Do not read this page as Riverside-with-a-rename. Prattville is Autauga. The City of Los Angeles is Los Angeles County. Riverside is Riverside County. None of those is this oval.

Ontario is a city — not the hall. Fontana is a city — not the hall. Rancho Cucamonga is a city — not the hall. Victorville is a city — not the hall. The high desert is north of the mountains — not a second county. Joshua Tree National Park and Mojave National Preserve are federal. Apple Valley, Hesperia, Redlands, Chino, Upland, and Barstow are cities — not the hall.

This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — valley remainder patrol, high-desert remainder patrol, contract-city work the office actually posts, and four houses this badge still holds — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — San Bernardino County.

Five Supervisors at Arrowhead. They do not sit as the State Assembly.

San Bernardino is a charter county. A five-member Board of Supervisors, elected by district, sits at the County Government Center, 385 North Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92415. They fund roads, the downtown courts, the high-desert halls, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. San Bernardino City Council is a city body. The California Legislature sits in Sacramento. None of those is this Board.

The San Bernardino County Superior Court lists downtown halls and additional campuses the court actually posts in Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, Joshua Tree, Victorville, Barstow, and elsewhere. Do not invent one courthouse as the whole map. Confirm live at sbcounty.gov and sb-court.org.

The Sheriff is a county officer (California Constitution Article XI; Government Code § 24000). This Sheriff is not on the 2026 gubernatorial table. Elections Code § 1300 (AB 759, 2022) moved sheriff and district attorney to the presidential primary. A sheriff elected in 2022 serves a six-year term; the next regular is the 2028 presidential primary. This charter did not lock a gubernatorial-year sheriff date before 1 January 2021. Last regular 7 June 2022. Take office at noon on the first Monday after January 1 succeeding election (Gov. Code § 24200). The Governor is 2026. That is a different desk in Sacramento.

The mountains are mountains. The high desert is north. Ontario is a city.

Interstate 10, Interstate 15, Interstate 215, and Interstate 40 meet on this map. The Santa Ana headwaters and the Mojave are water, not a Los Angeles badge. The Cajon Pass is a pass, not a second county. The Arrowhead is a slope, not a logo as this government. Los Angeles is west — the City of Los Angeles is that hall. Riverside is south — Riverside the city is that hall. Kern is northwest — Bakersfield is that hall. Inyo is north — Independence is that hall. Staff who paste a Hollywood photograph onto Third Street, or treat San Bernardino as Los Angeles, or file Victorville as this county government, or rewrite this county as Autauga-with-a-mountain, are on the wrong county.

How a largest-by-land public finds Third, Etiwanda, and Rialto

Board of Supervisors: 385 North Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino. Sheriff Headquarters: 655 East Third Street, San Bernardino, CA 92415. West Valley Detention Center: 9500 Etiwanda Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739. Central Detention Center: 630 East Rialto Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92415. Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center: 18000 Institution Road, Devore, CA 92407. High Desert Detention Center: 9438 Commerce Way, Adelanto, CA 92301. Confirm live at wp.sbcounty.gov/sheriff. A student who only knows a Los Angeles postcard, or a Hollywood photograph as this county, or treats SBPD as this jailer, has not found this campus.

West Valley, Central, Glen Helen, and High Desert still jail. SBPD does not. CDCR does not.

Crime in unincorporated San Bernardino County is this Sheriff. Crime in the City of San Bernardino is often San Bernardino Police. This office also contracts patrol the office actually posts — confirm the live contract list. This Sheriff is not those municipal departments. Four county housesWest Valley, Central Detention, Glen Helen, and High Desert — are this Sheriff’s shops. West Valley is among the largest county jails in California (official pages list 3,347 beds). Official doors did not show a separate county Department of Corrections taking those houses — do not invent a jailer split.

CDCR is not this Sheriff. California Institution for Men at Chino and other state houses on this map are state. CHP is a state badge. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to SBPD, to an Ontario police door, to Los Angeles, or to a CDCR gate.

Care without inventing Hollywood as this county government

A peace order served in unincorporated high-desert remainder. A court-ordered transport from West Valley to a Rancho Cucamonga court without becoming SBPD. Mutual aid when the pass burns. Do not invent a church. Do not invent Los Angeles as this oval. Do not invent Sacramento as this hall.

What San Bernardino County actually watches

Court calendar downtown and in Victorville. A wreck on I-15 through Cajon. Wind through the pass. Fire in the mountain interface. Heat on the high desert. Coordination with SBPD, contract-city departments, CHP, and Los Angeles / Riverside Sheriffs without becoming those departments. Citrus is history. The Arrowhead is a slope. Neither is Hollywood as this oval.
