Los Angeles is a charter county. A five-member Board of Supervisors, elected by district, sits at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. They fund roads, the Civic Center court campus, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Los Angeles City Council is a city body — City Hall is across the Civic Center, not this Board. The California Legislature sits in Sacramento. Orange County’s Board is a different county. None of those is this Board.
Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest trial-court system in the country. The Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center lists at 210 West Temple Street. Stanley Mosk Courthouse lists at 111 North Hill Street. Outlying halls sit from Lancaster to Long Beach to Santa Monica to Pomona. Do not invent one downtown photograph as the whole map. The Sheriff is a county officer (California Constitution Article XI; Government Code § 24000). This Sheriff is not on the 2026 gubernatorial table. Elections Code § 1300 (AB 759, 2022) moved sheriff and district attorney to the presidential primary. A sheriff elected in 2022 serves a six-year term; the next regular is the 2028 presidential primary. Last regular 7 June 2022. Take office at noon on the first Monday after January 1 succeeding election (Gov. Code § 24200). The Governor is 2026. That is a different desk in Sacramento.

A student who only knows a Hollywood postcard, or a Sacramento photograph as this county, or treats LAPD headquarters as Twin Towers, has not found this campus.
Twin Towers still jails. LAPD does not. CDCR does not.
Crime in unincorporated Los Angeles County — East Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights, Altadena, Marina del Rey, Florence-Firestone, and the remainder — is this Sheriff. Crime in the City of Los Angeles is often LAPD. Crime in Long Beach is often Long Beach Police. Crime in Pasadena is often Pasadena Police. Glendale, Torrance, Burbank, Santa Monica, Inglewood, and dozens more municipal departments are city badges. Contract cities the Sheriff actually posts remain this office. Twin Towers, Men’s Central, IRC, Pitchess, NCCF, and CRDF are this Sheriff’s detention houses. Official doors did not show a separate county Department of Corrections taking Twin Towers — do not invent a jailer split. Public guides have listed Mira Loma and Pitchess East as closed — confirm live; do not send a family to a closed house.
CDCR is not this Sheriff. CHP is a state badge. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to LAPD, to a CDCR gate, or to Orange County Jail.
