Cleburne County, Alabama, was erected 6 December 1866 from Calhoun, Randolph, and Talladega, and named for Patrick Cleburne. Heflin is the seat — from 1906, when the Alabama Supreme Court settled a fight with Edwardsville. Edwardsville is a town. It is not the county government now. U.S. 78 is the older road. Calhoun is west. Cherokee is north. Randolph is south. Clay is southwest. Georgia (Carroll / Haralson) is east. Staff who paste an Arkansas courthouse onto Vickery Street, or treat Edwardsville as today’s hall, or file “Cheaha as this jail,” are on the wrong county.
