Talladega County · Talladega the city is the seat · Montgomery is still the capital · this is not Calhoun and not a name-swap of another county

Talladega the city is the seat. Sylacauga is a south court, not a second county.

Talladega County, Alabama, was erected 18 December 1832 from Creek cession land and named for a Muscogee word for border town. Talladega is the seat. Talladega is the largest city in this county. Sylacauga is not the county government. It hosts the southern division of the 29th Judicial Circuit at the Sylacauga Annex. That is one county with two court campuses. It is not a second county. Childersburg, Lincoln, Munford, Oak Grove, Waldo, Bon Air, and Winterboro are municipalities or communities. They are not the hall. Oxford’s edge that sits in this county is still this map; Oxford the city is mostly Calhoun. Anniston is Calhoun — it is not this courthouse. This is not Talladega as Anniston. The SuperSpeedway in Lincoln is not this Sheriff. The federal correctional institution is not this jail. Talladega College is not this badge. Montgomery is the capital of Alabama. It sits in Montgomery County.

Places include Talladega, Sylacauga, Childersburg, Lincoln, Munford, Oak Grove, Waldo, Bon Air, Alpine, Fayetteville, and Winterboro. 2020 census: 82,149. This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — Coosa-and-marble remainder patrol and the Renfroe Road house this badge still holds — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Talladega County.

Five districts at One Court Square. They do not sit in Anniston as this county.

Talladega is a five-member County Commission, one commissioner per district. Each November the board elects a Chairman from among themselves. An appointed County Administrator sits with the Commission. There is no elected County Executive. They fund roads, the historic courthouse, the Judicial Building, the Sylacauga Annex, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Talladega City Council is a city body. Sylacauga City Council is a city body.

The Talladega County Courthouse — listed as the oldest courthouse in continuous use in Alabama — sits at 1 Court Square, Talladega, AL 35160. Probate, Commission, tags, and property list that Square. The Judicial Building for circuit and district work lists at 148 East Street North, Talladega, AL 35160. The Sylacauga Annex lists at 400 North Norton Avenue, Sylacauga, AL 35150. Circuit Clerk / Absentee Election Manager lists 148 East Street N. That is one county, two court campuses — not two counties.

The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Talladega is a city clock.

The Coosa, I-20 at Lincoln, U.S. 280. Anniston is Calhoun.

Interstate 20 cuts the north. U.S. 78 and U.S. 280 are through roads. The Coosa forms the western water. Calhoun is north. Cleburne is northeast. Clay is east. Coosa is south. Shelby is southwest. St. Clair is northwest. Staff who paste an Anniston postcard onto Court Square, or treat the SuperSpeedway as this hall, or file “Sylacauga as a second county,” or drop Tallapoosa’s Dadeville onto East Street, are on the wrong county.

How a Talladega public finds Court Square, East Street, and Renfroe Road

Courthouse / Commission / Probate: 1 Court Square. Judicial Building / Circuit Clerk / Absentee: 148 East Street North. Sheriff headquarters: 148 East Street N., 1st Floor (talladegacountyal.org and the Secretary of State listing). County Jail: 150 East Renfroe Road, Talladega, AL 35160. Sylacauga Annex: 400 North Norton Avenue. Confirm live addresses on those doors. A student who only knows a racetrack photograph, or an Anniston skyline, has not found this Square.

150 East Renfroe still jails. Talladega PD does not. FCI is federal.

Crime in unincorporated Talladega — Munford country, Winterboro, the Coosa bottoms outside city limits, the Lincoln remainder off I-20 — is this Sheriff. Crime in Talladega the city is often Talladega Police. Crime in Sylacauga is often Sylacauga Police. Crime in Childersburg or Lincoln is often those municipal departments. This Sheriff is not Talladega PD. The Talladega County Jail at 150 East Renfroe Road is this Sheriff’s house. It is not a separate county Department of Corrections that took the jail. It is not ADOC. It is not the federal correctional institution in this county. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to Talladega Police Headquarters, to a federal house, or to Anniston. Civil process and court security at 148 East Street and at the Sylacauga Annex are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the speedway rumor. Remedy for Talladega Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when I-20 ices at Lincoln is this count first.

Care without inventing a speedway chapel as this county

A peace order served in unincorporated Munford. A transport from 150 East Renfroe to 148 East Street, or from Renfroe to the Sylacauga Annex, without becoming Talladega PD. Do not invent a church. Do not invent the SuperSpeedway as this badge.

What a border-town courthouse actually watches

Court calendars on two campuses. A wreck on I-20. Fog on the Coosa. A night road outside Childersburg. Coordination with Talladega PD, Sylacauga PD, and ALEA without becoming those departments. Coordination with Calhoun’s Sheriff or Clay’s Sheriff is mutual aid between two offices, not a merger. A Montgomery photograph does not steal the capital. An Anniston rumor does not steal the seat.
