2029 Election — Attorney General of Virginia

Virginia Attorney General · 2029 · educational cover · justice civic · American Future Type
This is Side Two — 2029, not 2026, not 2027
This page is the arena for this office, this cycle. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin.
It is not a campaign. It does not crown a winner. It does not tell you who to vote for. Names belong on the official sample ballot.
Virginia elects this lawyer in the odd year after a presidential year, with the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor. Last regular: 4 November 2025. Next regular: Tuesday, 6 November 2029. Do not invent a 2026 Attorney General race. Do not invent a 2027 Attorney General race. Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi stand 2027. They are not this Commonwealth.
There is no term-limit clock on this lawyer. That is a clock fact. It is not a crown for the next name. The Governor cannot succeed — a different hire.
When counties and independent cities actually vote for this lawyer
- Primary: confirm elections.virginia.gov when the 2029 calendar posts. Do not treat a guessed Tuesday as filed.
- General: Tuesday, 6 November 2029.
- Take office: January 2030. Confirm the live day.
- Map: 95 counties plus independent cities. An independent city is not a county.
This is a regular Attorney General election. It is not a U.S. Senate race as the whole ballot. Virginia’s Class II Senate is 2026. The Governor is a different 2029 hire (Governor of Virginia · 2029). This desk is the Commonwealth’s lawyer.
Names belong on elections.virginia.gov
Do not take names from a news comment or a NoVA thread.
- Official candidate list / sample ballot — Virginia Department of Elections
- Local sample ballot and the electoral board in this county or independent city
- Current Attorney General of record (not the same thing as the 2029 nominee) — oag.state.va.us
- Registration and ballot status — ELECT voter tools
If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
A complaint against this desk is not a Richmond mayor file
A resident who was mistreated by a state file, a consumer shop that would not answer, or a license that never moved files on official doors: the Office of the Attorney General, the agency of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the Department of Elections and the local electoral board. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A Richmond mayor complaint is a city file (Mayor of Richmond). A Commonwealth’s Attorney is a circuit prosecutor. Do not file a Commonwealth-lawyer grievance at city hall.
Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.
After a hurricane that still makes the falls, the consumer door still opens
Relief this office actually runs is a state consumer door, an opinion a board asked for, and the litigation this constitution actually assigns. A hurricane that still reports to Richmond, ice on I-95, a James flood at the falls — mutual aid with Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina is real. Those states do not vote for this Attorney General. D.C. does not vote for this Attorney General.
The General Assembly’s hour is the statute. The Attorney General’s hour is the file that is state, not a Commonwealth’s Attorney’s. Read the office page before you read a mailer.
Papers, opinions, the night a mountain county asks Richmond
You are hiring the Attorney General of Virginia for the whole Commonwealth — four years, one lawyer, counties and independent cities, not a Governor. Papers a resident actually needs: a consumer status, an opinion process that is Article V not a rumor, a public-integrity question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is that whole map, not one NoVA skyline.
The staff is the office. A serious Attorney General is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Richmond is the job. The rest of the Commonwealth is the hire.
Confirm ELECT for the primary; November 6, 2029 general
Due process on this hire: primary as the 2029 calendar actually writes it, general 6 November 2029. Confirm filing, absentee, and ID on elections.virginia.gov. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not teach Kentucky’s 2027 May as this calendar.
A vacancy after the election is succession under this constitution, not a tweet. Do not transplant Louisiana’s Saturday onto the falls.
The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. Norfolk does not become the capital because a mailer said so. Northern Virginia does not become the capital.
Equal protection from a mountain precinct to the Eastern Shore
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly on Capitol Square and in a mountain precinct. Equal protection in counties and independent cities. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This office practices state law that can touch a license, a consumer file, a prison, a river, a road, and a vote. It must not treat Norfolk as the capital, Richmond as the whole James, or a 2026 Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Richmond is the capital. The people of the Commonwealth hire the office. The Department of Elections is the door.
