What this office is
A United States Senator is a federal legislator elected by the whole state. Wisconsin has two Senate seats. This page is Class III — the other of those two. The term is six years. Class III last stood in the regular election of 2022. The next regular election is 2028. The term of record runs through 3 January 2029.
Florida and Ohio Class III specials in 2026 are not this office. Wisconsin Class III is not on the 2026 Senate ballot. Wisconsin has no Class II and no 2026 Senate race.
This is not a House district. Eau Claire is not Sheboygan. Wausau is not Kenosha. Door County is not a Driftless coulee. They still hire the same Senator. Madison remains the capital on this twin too. Milwaukee is still not the state. The Fox Valley is a river-and-paper-and-plant file, not a synonym for Green Bay alone.

How the job fits this community
Class III is the nearer remaining regular clock after 2026. The geography is still the state: a capital file that already has a Class I inbox, a dairy-county file that is not a campus brochure, a Driftless coulee file, a Fox Valley plant file, a Lake Michigan shore that is not Illinois, and a Northwoods town that files like winter.
Federal work here is a farm bill, a delayed federal permit, SSA, veterans’ claims, a Great Lakes port, and a flood or ice year that is not a Milwaukee story. The Senator is the human hinge between that statewide map and Washington.
Price County still writes letters. The Northwoods is not a footnote. Minnesota is still a different state. Illinois is still a different state. Michigan is still a different state.

- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- Advice and consent. Nominations and treaties.
- The purse, with the House. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
- Casework. Statewide — including counties that are not on I-43.
- Two homes. Washington for votes. Wisconsin for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a file from the Fox Valley and a file from a dairy county west of Madison. In the state: a day that is not the same as Wisconsin’s 8th House district, even when both touch Green Bay.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
