What this office is
A United States Senator is a federal legislator elected by the whole state. North Dakota has two Senate seats. This page is Class III — the other of those two. The term is six years. Class III last stood in the regular election of 2022. The next regular election is 2028. The term of record runs through 3 January 2029.
Florida and Ohio Class III specials in 2026 are not this office. North Dakota Class III is not on the 2026 Senate ballot. North Dakota has no Class II and no 2026 Senate race.
This is not a House district. Williston is not Wahpeton. Minot is not Dickinson. They still hire the same Senator. Bismarck remains the capital on this twin too. The at-large House seat is still not this office.

How the job fits this community
Class III is the nearer remaining regular clock after 2026. The geography is still the state: a Souris/Minot inbox that is not the Red River, a Grand Forks campus-and-air-base inbox that is not Bismarck, a Williston–Dickinson energy inbox, a Turtle Mountain and Fort Berthold file that is not a slogan, and a capital that already has a Class I file. Senate casework does not stop at Cass County.
Federal work here is Garrison Dam, a Peace Garden border day, a delayed federal permit, SSA, veterans’ claims, and a flood year on the Red that is not a downtown Fargo story. The Senator is the human hinge between that statewide map and Washington.
Lake Sakakawea is not a postcard. Divide County still writes letters.

- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- Advice and consent. Nominations and treaties.
- The purse, with the House. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.

- Two homes. Washington for votes. North Dakota for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a file from the Red River Valley and a file from a two-lane county west of the Missouri. In the state: a day that is not the same as the at-large House race, even when both touch Fargo.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
