What this office is
A United States Senator is a federal legislator elected by the whole state. North Dakota has two Senate seats. This page is Class I — one of those two. The term is six years. Class I last stood in the regular election of 2024. The next regular election is 2030. The term of record runs through 3 January 2031.
North Dakota has no Class II. The other seat is Class III. There is no 2026 U.S. Senate race in North Dakota. Florida and Ohio 2026 Class III specials are not this office. This is not Minnesota. This is not South Dakota. This is not Montana.
This is not a House district. North Dakota has fifty-three counties. Bismarck is the capital, on the Missouri — not Fargo, not Grand Forks, not Minot. Fargo is the largest city. It is not the map. The Red River Valley, the Bakken, the reservation nations, Lake Sakakawea country, and the prairie hire the same Senator.

How the job fits this community
Class I is the longer remaining regular clock after 2026. The inbox is still the state: a capital file from the Missouri at Bismarck, a Fargo file that is not the capital, a Red River Valley farm file that is not Minnesota, a Bakken energy file that is not Montana, a reservation-nation file that is a government-to-government stack, and a prairie county off I-94 that never makes the national news.
People here meet the federal government as SSA, VA, IRS, a delayed Corps permit on the Missouri or Lake Sakakawea, a farm bill on the Red, an energy file in the west, and a winter that is not a Fargo press conference. The Senator is the human hinge between this map and Washington — for six years, not two.
Staff who only know Broadway in Fargo, or only know the capitol mall, are not doing the job. Minnesota is a different state. South Dakota is a different state. Montana is a different state.

What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Burleigh County and a visitor whose drive started in Williston or Pembina. In the state: a Bismarck desk, a prairie day on I-94, and a river day that is not the same as the at-large House office even when both cover the whole map.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
