The Idaho State Senate is the upper house of the Idaho Legislature. Thirty-five Senators. Article III, Section 2 of the Idaho Constitution, as apportioned after the census: thirty-five legislative districts. Each district hires one Senator and two Representatives. The Legislature’s own door at legislature.idaho.gov is the roster of record.
The term is two years. Idaho does not stagger this chamber. All thirty-five seats stand every even year. The next regular election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Winners take office the first day of December next following the general (Article III, Section 3). That is Idaho’s clock. It is not January. It is not midnight of election day. It is not Alabama.
This is not a United States Senate seat. The federal files live at Idaho Class II and Idaho Class III. Idaho has no Class I. Class II is on 3 November 2026. That is a different desk. This chamber does not vote in Congress, does not confirm federal judges, and does not sit in Washington.
This is not the Idaho House of Representatives. Seventy desks — two per district — is a different house, also on a two-year clock, also all up in 2026. This is not the Governor. This is not the Attorney General. This is not a Mayor.
Boise is the capital, in Ada County, on the Boise River in the Treasure Valley. Boise is also the largest city. That coincidence is not a license to treat the valley as the whole state. The panhandle is timber and lakes. It is not the capital. Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls, Coeur d’Alene, and a sage-county town that never makes a Boise broadcast hire this chamber — thirty-five districts, not one greenbelt.
Idaho is forty-four counties. A State Senate district is not the whole state. Seat packets, when they ship, teach this district. This page teaches the chamber.

Two years, all thirty-five, first of December
Article III, Section 3 is the clock in one sentence: senators and representatives are elected for two years, from and after the first day of December next following the general election. Idaho’s citizen legislature organizes in December and opens the regular session in January. A short session is still a session.
There are no legislative term limits in Idaho.
Qualifications sit in Article III, Section 6: a U.S. citizen, an elector of the state, and an elector of the district for one year next preceding the election. Always verify the current text. This page is teaching, not a filing packet.
Idaho is a citizen legislature. Two homes still apply: the sandstone capitol for the session. The district for the people who hired the seat. Staff who only know the Greenbelt, or only know a lake town as the state, or only know a ski mountain as Idaho, are not doing the job. The Mayor of Boise is a different office (Mayor of Boise).
The Lieutenant Governor sits as President
Article IV, Section 13: the Lieutenant Governor shall be president of the senate, and votes only when the Senate is equally divided. That is Idaho’s clock, not Colorado’s and not Hawaii’s. The Senate elects a President Pro Tempore to preside in the Lieutenant Governor’s absence. Majority and minority leaders are chosen by caucus. Standing committees — Finance; Judiciary and Rules; Resources and Environment; Agricultural Affairs; Education; Transportation — are how the work is actually cut. Vacancies are filled by the Governor from a list the district party actually submits, as statute provides. Do not invent a holdover. Confirm on the Secretary of State.
Redistricting is not a caucus drawing. Idaho uses a Commission for Reapportionment. Treat a commission map and a court order as clocks. Confirm which map a given election actually used on the Secretary of State.

The official legislative door is legislature.idaho.gov. Bills, committee minutes, the citizen-legislature calendar, and the member of record belong there — not on a forwarded screenshot. Session calendars and today’s schedule are posted on that site.
The official election door is the Idaho Secretary of State and Vote Idaho. Registration, ballot status, and the sample ballot belong on Vote Idaho and the county clerk in this county — forty-four of them.
Staff who only know a Facebook page are not doing the job. A constituent who was told “you can vote by text” was not told the truth until a .gov page says otherwise.
Confirmations that never leave Idaho
A confirmation hearing is this chamber’s justice minute: an appointee the Governor named, a board that will actually touch a water right, a license, a prison, or a school. It is not a trial. It is not a U.S. Senate hearing. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer (Attorney General of Idaho). The Senate is not that office.
Equal protection on this map is not a Boise-only file. A panhandle timber precinct, a Magic Valley farm, an eastern-Idaho town, and a wilderness county hire the same Constitution. A district that never makes a Treasure Valley broadcast still sits in this chamber. The U.S. Attorney and a district judge are not this Senator.
The Nez Perce, the Shoshone-Bannock, the Coeur d’Alene, and the Kootenai are nations on this map. They are not a county. This chamber writes state law that still has to live next to that fact. Do not invent a federal Indian-affairs desk.
Fire, flood, and a Snake River year
Care this office actually gives is a bill and an oversight hour, not a church. Do not invent a ministry. A fire year in the timber, a flood on the Boise or the Snake, a drought on the plain, a hard winter in a high-country county that is not a Capitol press conference — those land as appropriations, emergency statutes, and questions to agencies the Governor runs.
Rural hospitals, a state prison, Medicaid as state policy, IDWR, a compact on the Snake, a National Guard year in state status: the Senate does not command the Guard (the Governor does). It writes and oversees the statutes those desks live under. Chaplaincy that exists in a prison or a Guard unit is that department’s staffing. It is not this page’s pulpit.
A citizen session is still a school
The Legislature’s own shops — the Legislative Services Office, bill drafting, budget staff — are how the work is actually learned. Page and intern openings belong on official legislative and university civic pages, not on a campaign site. A student who wants the civic path confirms those doors on .gov and campus postings.
County clerks and the Secretary of State’s Elections Division are how election work is learned. Ada is a county. It is not this chamber. A law-school clinic that files in Boise still files in a court, not in a Senate committee.
What a short session actually hears
Census and the Commission for Reapportionment. A citizen-session calendar. A fire-weather outlook in the timber. A snowpack report that is actually the water year. A compact call on the Snake. Committee attendance. Confirmation questionnaires. Dockets that a bill would actually change.
That is situational awareness for this chamber. It is not spy fiction. It is not a Mayor’s night radio. It is not the Attorney General’s case map.
Forty-four counties hire one capitol
The inbox is a state inbox split thirty-five ways: a capital file from the sandstone dome that is not the panhandle; a Treasure Valley file that is not the whole state; a panhandle timber-and-lake file from Coeur d’Alene or Sandpoint that is not the capital; a Magic Valley farm-and-canyon file from Twin Falls; an eastern Idaho file from Idaho Falls, Pocatello, or Rexburg; a Salmon and wilderness file; a Palouse file from Moscow that looks at Washington and remains Idaho; and a sage-county town that never makes a Boise broadcast.
The Boise River, the Snake, the Salmon, the Clearwater, and the Payette are this hydrology. A desert fountain is not this land. A lake-town postcard is not the capital.
Washington is a different state. Oregon is a different state. Nevada is a different state. Utah is a different state. Wyoming is a different state. Montana is a different state. Lewiston looks west and remains Idaho. Bear Lake looks south and remains Idaho.
Staff who only know the Greenbelt, or only know a panhandle lake as Idaho, are on the wrong office.
