The Minnesota House of Representatives is the lower house of the Minnesota Legislature. One hundred thirty-four Representatives. Article IV of the Minnesota Constitution writes that chamber. Two House maps — A and B — nest under each of sixty-seven Senate districts. Confirm the live count and the member of record on house.mn.gov.

The term is two years. Minnesota does not stagger this chamber. All one hundred thirty-four seats stand every even year. That is the opposite of the Senate’s 2-4-4 decade clock: all sixty-seven Senators stand in 2026 for four years; 2030 is the Senate’s two-year census class. The House does not ride that 2-4-4. The next regular House election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The official year of the state begins the first Monday in January (Article VII, Section 7). House terms terminate then. After this class that is Monday, 4 January 2027. The body convenes the first Tuesday after the second Monday in January of the odd year. That is Minnesota’s clock. It is not Michigan’s noon January 1. It is not Indiana’s day-after.

This is not a United States House seat. Minnesota sends eight Representatives to Congress on a two-year clock. Those files live under U.S. House. This chamber does not vote in Congress, does not sit in Washington, and does not split a federal district.

This is not the Minnesota State Senate. Sixty-seven desks is a different house — 2-4-4, Senate elects its own President, all sixty-seven this Tuesday for four years. This is not the Governor — Minnesota’s Governor is also on 2026, a different desk. This is not the Attorney General. This is not the Mayor of Saint Paul.

Saint Paul is the capital, in Ramsey County, on the Mississippi River, under the Cass Gilbert Capitol. Minneapolis is the largest city. It is not the capital. The two cities share a metro. They do not share a city hall, and they do not share this page’s map of the seat of government. The Iron Range, the North Shore, the Red River Valley, the southern prairie, the Boundary Waters, and a Hennepin neighborhood hire this chamber — one hundred thirty-four districts, not one skyway.

Minnesota is eighty-seven counties. A State House district is not the whole state. Seat packets, when they ship, teach this district. This page teaches the chamber.

The House elects its own Speaker. The Lieutenant Governor does not preside here. The Senate elects its own President. Confirm officers on house.mn.gov.

A Representative has two homes. The Cass Gilbert Capitol for the session. The district for the people who hired the seat. Staff who only know Nicollet Mall, or only know a Duluth harbor as the state, or only know a prairie county as Minnesota, are not doing the job. The Capitol is the capitol. The Mayor of Saint Paul is a different office (Mayor of Saint Paul).

Revenue starts here; the first Monday in January is the year

Minnesota writes state law in two houses. A bill that is not passed by this House is not Minnesota law. The Governor signs or vetoes; the Legislature can override where the constitution actually gives it.

Article IV, Section 18 is this chamber’s money hinge: all bills for raising revenue shall originate in the house of representatives, but the Senate may propose and concur with amendments as on other bills. That is not a federal Ways and Means file. Confirm the current text. This page is teaching, not a drafting manual.

The House keeps the money work in Ways and Means and Taxes. A school-aid year and a roads-and-prisons year are not the same bill. Standing committees — Ways and Means; Taxes; Education Finance; Health Finance and Policy; Environment and Natural Resources Finance; Agriculture Finance and Policy; Judiciary Finance and Civil Law — are how the work is actually cut. Confirm the current book on house.mn.gov. Do not treat a screenshot as the committee list.

Qualifications sit in Article IV, Section 6: a qualified voter, at least twenty-one, a resident of Minnesota for one year, and of the district for six months immediately preceding the election. Always verify the current text.

There are no legislative term limits in Minnesota. Consecutive-term caps that apply in Michigan or Missouri are not this desk.

Vacancies in this chamber are filled by election. No one is appointed to this House. If the hole falls in session, the Governor has five days to issue a writ; the special is to be held within thirty-five days. If the Legislature is out and fewer than 150 days remain before the next state general, the Governor still calls a special so a winner can sit when the body reconvenes. Confirm on Article IV, Section 4 and Minn. Stat. 204D.19.

Redistricting is legislative. The Legislature draws the maps. Treat a statute and a court order as clocks. Confirm which map a given election actually used on the Secretary of State — not on a thread.

The 2026 even-year session already adjourned 18 May 2026. That was a sitting, not this November’s hire.

house.mn.gov is the ledger; county auditors still run the count

The official House door is house.mn.gov and the Legislature’s combined door at leg.mn.gov. Bills, fiscal notes from House Research and fiscal staff, committee notices, today’s calendar, and the member of record belong there — not on a forwarded screenshot. The Revisor of Statutes is how enrolled text actually lives. Minnesota is a full-time legislature by national measure.

The official election door is the Minnesota Secretary of State and Minnesota Votes. Registration, ballot status, and the sample ballot belong there and with the eighty-seven county auditors.

A constituent who was told “you can vote by a text thread” was not told the truth until a .gov page says otherwise.

This House impeaches; a Governor's writ fills a hole

Minnesota’s House has the sole power of impeachment through a majority of all its members (Article VIII, Section 1). The Senate tries. Conviction is not a district-court docket and not the Attorney General’s case map (Attorney General of Minnesota). Do not teach a federal impeachment as this file.

A hole is a writ, not a Governor’s gift of the desk. Confirm on Article IV, Section 4. Do not invent a caucus.

Equal protection on this map is not a Minneapolis-only file. A Kittson County precinct and a Ramsey County neighborhood hire the same Constitution. A district that never makes a skyway broadcast still sits in this chamber. The U.S. Attorney and a district judge are not this Representative.

Eleven federally recognized nations sit on this map. They are not counties. This chamber writes state law that still has to live next to that fact. Do not invent a federal Indian-affairs desk.

Each house judges its own members. Expulsion is this constitution’s file, not a comment section.

A polar-vortex statute is not a parish

Care this office actually gives is a bill and an appropriation, not a church. Do not invent a ministry. A polar-vortex night, a Red River flood at the Valley, a drought on prairie ground that never makes a Saint Paul press conference, an ice year on the North Shore — those land as House Ways and Means hours, emergency statutes, and questions to agencies the Governor runs.

Rural hospitals, a state prison, Medicaid as state policy, MnDOT, a National Guard year in state status: the House does not command the Guard (the Governor does). It writes and oversees the statutes those desks live under. Chaplaincy that exists in a prison or a Guard unit is that department’s staffing. It is not this page’s pulpit. The gold geometry on this cover is civic grammar. It is not a parish substituting for the Legislature.

How a student learns the people's house at Saint Paul

The Legislature’s own shops — House Research, House Fiscal Analysis, the Revisor of Statutes, the Legislative Reference Library — are how the work is actually learned. Page and intern openings belong on official legislative and university civic pages, not on a campaign site. A student who wants the civic path confirms those doors on .gov and campus postings. Minneapolis is a university city. It is not the capital.

Ways and Means is how a student learns a year that must start here when the bill raises revenue. County auditors and the Secretary of State’s Elections Division are how election work is learned. Ramsey County is not this chamber. A law-school clinic that files in Saint Paul still files in a court, not in a House committee.
