One hundred twenty desks, not twenty-eight

The Florida House of Representatives is the lower house of the Florida Legislature. One hundred twenty Representatives. Article III of the Florida Constitution builds this chamber. Confirm the live count and the member of record on myfloridahouse.gov.

The term is two years. Florida does not stagger this chamber. Article III, Section 15(b): members of the house of representatives shall be elected for terms of two years in each even-numbered year. The next regular election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Section 15(d): members of the legislature take office upon election — midnight of the day of the general election. That is Florida’s clock, the same hinge as Alabama’s midnight rule, and not January. Confirm on myfloridahouse.gov and the Division of Elections.

This is not a United States House seat. Florida sends twenty-eight Representatives to Congress. Those files live under U.S. House. This chamber does not vote in Congress, does not sit in Washington, and does not split a federal district.

This is not the Florida State Senate. Forty desks, four-year stagger, even-numbered districts this November — a different house. This is not the Governor. This is not the Attorney General. This is not a Mayor.

Tallahassee is the capital. The House sits in the Florida Capitol complex in Leon County, on the Red Hills. The historic old capitol and the tower are this civic hill. Miami is not the map. Orlando is not the map. Tampa is not the map. Jacksonville is not the capital. The Panhandle, the Big Bend, I-4, South Florida, the Keys, and the cattle-and-grove counties hire this chamber — one hundred twenty districts, not one beach postcard.

Florida is sixty-seven counties. A State House district is not the whole state. Seat packets, when they ship, teach this district. This page teaches the chamber.

The House elects its own Speaker. The Lieutenant Governor does not preside here — Florida’s Senate elects its own President. Do not treat a news comment as the roster. Confirm officers on myfloridahouse.gov.

A Representative has two homes. Tallahassee for the session. The district for the people who hired the seat. Staff who only know the tower, or only know a beach as the whole state, are not doing the job. The Mayor of Tallahassee is a different office (Mayor of Tallahassee).

Either house may start a bill; this floor still writes the people-sized one

Florida writes state law in two houses. A bill that is not passed by this House is not Florida law. The Governor signs or vetoes; the Legislature can override where the constitution actually gives it.

Article III, Section 7 is the hinge other states do not copy: any bill may originate in either house and after passage in one may be amended in the other. Do not transplant Alabama’s or Colorado’s origination clause onto this page. Three readings. A 60-day regular session. Article III, Section 19 is the budget process. Confirm the current text. Qualifications sit in Article III, Section 15(c): a legislator at least twenty-one, an elector and resident of the district from which elected, and a resident of Florida for two years prior to election. Always verify the current text. Eight consecutive years is the House cap — four two-year terms. Consecutive-term caps that apply to the Governor are not this desk’s only clock.

Section 15(d) again: vacancies in legislative office shall be filled only by election as provided by law. Do not invent a Governor appointment to this seat. Do not invent a vacancy committee.

The House is the judge of the election, returns, and qualifications of its own members.

Apportionment is Article III, Section 16, with Fair Districts standards in the constitution. Treat a joint resolution and a court order as clocks, not as slogans. Confirm which map a given election actually used on the Division of Elections and the courts.

Regular session is sixty consecutive days, ordinarily the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March. The 2026 regular session already ran and adjourned. Organization of the next House follows the November hire, because members already hold the seat at midnight of election day.

myfloridahouse.gov, not a meme

The official legislative door is myfloridahouse.gov. Bills, amendments, committee notices, today’s schedule, and the member of record belong there — not on a forwarded image. An adjourned 60-day calendar is not a rumor mill.

The official election door is the Division of Elections. Registration, ballot status, and the sample ballot belong on Florida Votes and the supervisor of elections in this county — sixty-seven of them.

Special elections fill a hole; equal protection is the peninsula

The House is not a court and not the Attorney General (Attorney General of Florida). Impeachment, when this constitution actually files it, is not a comment section. Confirm the live text of Article III. Do not teach a federal impeachment as this file.

Equal protection on this map is not a Miami-Dade-only file. A Panhandle precinct and a Keys precinct hire the same Constitution. A cattle county that never makes a beach broadcast still sits in this chamber. The U.S. Attorney and a circuit judge are not this Representative.

A statute is not a beach ministry

Care this office actually gives is a bill and an appropriation, not a church. Do not invent a ministry. A hurricane track over the Panhandle, a freeze on a grove county, a King-tide night in the Keys — those land as Appropriations hours, emergency statutes, and questions to agencies the Governor runs.

Rural hospitals, a state prison, Medicaid as state policy, FDOT, a National Guard year in state status: the House does not command the Guard (the Governor does). It writes and oversees the statutes those desks live under. Chaplaincy that exists in a prison or a Guard unit is that department’s staffing. It is not this page’s pulpit. How a student learns a sixty-day clock

The Legislature’s own shops — bill drafting, fiscal analyses, the House Clerk, committee staff — are how the work is actually learned. Page and intern openings belong on official legislative and university civic pages, not on a campaign site.

Appropriations is how a student learns a year. The Clerk’s office is how a student learns a 60-day calendar. Supervisors of elections and the Division of Elections are how election work is learned. A law-school clinic that files in Leon County still files in a court, not in a House committee.

Red Hills weather and a sixty-day clock

Census and Article III, Section 16. A 60-day session that actually runs out. A hurricane track. A freeze report from a grove county. A spring that is not Miami’s. Committee attendance. An adjourned 2026 regular session already on the books — the November hire is the next two years, not a re-run of March.

That is situational awareness for this chamber. It is not spy fiction. It is not a Mayor’s night radio. It is not the Attorney General’s case map. It is not a U.S. House whip count.

Red Hills watch the whole peninsula

The inbox is a state inbox split one hundred twenty ways: a capital file from the Red Hills that is not Miami; a Panhandle pine-and-port file from Pensacola or Panama City; a Jacksonville river-and-navy file; an I-4 file from Orlando or Tampa that is still state work; a Miami-Dade and South Florida file that is not the whole map; a Keys file; a cattle and grove file from a county that never makes a beach broadcast; and a Big Bend file whose hydrology is springs, not surf.

The St. Marks, the Suwannee, the St. Johns, the Peace, and the Everglades as a different water are this hydrology. A desert fountain is not this land. A Miami Beach postcard is not the whole state.

Alabama is a different state. Georgia is a different state. The Perdido is not a license to treat Escambia as another Gulf state. Key West is Florida. Pensacola is Florida.
