Ocean Sheriff · the arena · Toms River waits until 2028 to hire this desk

This is Side Two

This page is the arena for this office. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin. The county as a place is taught at Ocean County.

It is not a campaign. Names belong on the official sample ballotwhen this office is on it. No crown. Do not invent a 2026 name.

Toms River hires the Sheriff in 2028

Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2: three years. Ocean last stood in the regular election of Tuesday, 4 November 2025. Bolts puts Ocean with Burlington, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren on the 2025 + 3 table.

Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not an Ocean sheriff general. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 in New Jersey. U.S. House is 2026. The Governor is 2029. Mercer — the capital — is 2026. Cape May is 2026. Atlantic is 2026. This badge is not those ovals.

  • Next regular general: Tuesday, 7 November 2028.
  • Primary that cycle: confirm the Division of Elections calendar when 2028 posts (odd-year June typical).
  • Take office after 2028: Monday, 1 January 2029.
  • Vacancy before then: Governor appointment, Senate advice and consent, same party (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-102) — not a made-up November 2026 oval.

County Clerk sits at 118 Washington Street

The County Clerk lists at 118 Washington Street, Toms River, with a northern resource room in Lakewood and a southern service center in Manahawkin. That Clerk is not this oval. Confirm registration and any 2026 other offices on nj.gov/state/elections and voter.svrs.nj.gov. If Sheriff is absent from a 2026 Ocean sample ballot, that is the clock.

Sample ballot on a Pinelands map

Do not take names from a boardwalk rumor or a Maryland comment thread.

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.

What you are not hiring in 2026

You are not hiring an Ocean Sheriff on the 2026 general. You are hiring this desk in 2028: court at 118 Washington Street and the Justice Complex, civil process across thirty-three municipalities, transport the court orders. You are not hiring Toms River Police. You are not hiring the Warden at 114 Hooper Avenue. You are not hiring the Atlantic County Sheriff (that Mays Landing desk is 2026). You are not hiring the Governor.

Read the office page for why Department of Corrections is a different door.

Remedy on a five-commissioner map

A bad service or a sale that missed Plumsted — this Sheriff’s door, Professional Standards, and the courts. Five Commissioners are not the substitute for a paper. Not a comment section. Not Maryland.

Relief when a nor’easter hits the barrier

Nor’easter, ice on the Parkway, a freeze that closes Route 72 to the Island — this county’s mutual aid first. Monmouth’s Sandy Hook is a different count. Atlantic’s Mays Landing is a different count. Long Beach Island flooded on this map before. That corridor is still this count.

Service — papers, Justice Complex, night transport

Papers. A Washington Street courtroom. A night transport the Warden at 114 Hooper handed off. That purchase does not pause because the next regular hire is 2028.

Due process does not wait for a Pinelands rumor

A levy in Brick still needs notice. A sale still needs the uniform procedures. The Constitution does not pause because a visitor thinks Ocean is Maryland, or thinks Lakewood is the county hall.

Rights from Lakewood to Tuckerton

Equal protection on the Pinelands-and-barrier map. Counsel. Property. Honest process. A Lakewood tenant and a Tuckerton household hire the same Sheriff.
