Sheriff Election — Atlantic County, New Jersey

Atlantic Sheriff · the arena · the Shore county hires this desk in 2026
This is Side Two
This page is the arena for this office. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin. The county as a place is taught at Atlantic County.
It is not a campaign. Names belong on the official sample ballot. No crown.
The Shore county hires on 3 November 2026
Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2: three years. N.J.S.A. 40A:9-100: take office January 1 next succeeding the election. Atlantic rides the 2023 / 2026 / 2029 sheriff class with Cape May, Cumberland, Mercer, and Union.
- Partisan primary: Tuesday, 2 June 2026 (already sat). Semi-closed. Confirm leftover dates on the Division of Elections calendar.
- General: Tuesday, 3 November 2026.
- Take office: Friday, 1 January 2027.
- Vacancy rule: Governor appointment, Senate advice and consent, same party (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-102).
The Governor is 2029 — a different oval. The County Executive is a different oval. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 in New Jersey — still a different desk. A Boardwalk photograph does not rewrite the sheriff year. Bergen and Camden sheriffs are 2027. Burlington is 2028. Do not paste those clocks here.
County Clerk sits on Main Street, Mays Landing
5901 Main Street, Mays Landing NJ 08330. Not Atlantic City tourism. Not Trenton. Not Hackensack. Confirm registration, the sample ballot, early voting, and vote-by-mail windows on nj.gov/state/elections and voter.svrs.nj.gov. Early voting for the 2026 general is the window the Division posts — 24 October through 1 November 2026 on the live 2026 page. Read that page. Do not invent a different one here.
Sample ballot on the Boardwalk map
Do not take names from a casino rumor or a Pinelands comment thread.

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
What you are hiring — court, not the Gormley jail
You are hiring the Sheriff of Atlantic County — court security in Mays Landing and Atlantic City, civil process from Brigantine to Hammonton, sheriff sales, warrants, transport. You are not hiring Atlantic City Police. You are not hiring the Warden of the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility. You are not hiring the Bergen County Sheriff. You are not hiring the Governor.
Read the office page for why Adult Detention is a different door.
Remedy on an Executive-form county
A bad service or a sale that missed Hammonton — this Sheriff’s door and the courts. The County Executive is not the internal-affairs substitute for a paper. Not a comment section. Not Trenton.
Relief when a nor’easter hits Absecon Island
Shore surge, a Great Egg flood, a freeze that closes the Expressway — this county’s mutual aid first. Bergen’s Palisades are a different count. Burlington’s pines are a different count.
Service — papers, two courthouses, night transport
Papers. A Mays Landing courtroom. A civil day in Atlantic City. A night transport the court ordered. That is the purchase.
Due process does not wait for a casino rumor
A levy in Galloway still needs notice. A sale still needs the uniform procedures. The Constitution does not pause because a visitor thinks Atlantic County is only the Boardwalk.
Rights from Brigantine to Hammonton
Equal protection on the Shore-and-pines map. Counsel. Property. Honest process. A Ventnor tenant and a Hammonton farm hire the same Sheriff.
