Mays Landing is the seat. Atlantic City is not the county hall.
Atlantic is a South Jersey county on the Atlantic and the Great Egg Harbor River, created 1837 from Gloucester. Mays Landing — an unincorporated community in Hamilton Township — is the seat. Atlantic City is a city on Absecon Island. Casinos, the Boardwalk, and a famous skyline do not move the county hall. Trenton is the capital of New Jersey and sits in Mercer. Cape May is south. Cumberland and Gloucester are west. Burlington and Ocean touch the north of this map.
Municipalities include Atlantic City, Brigantine, Ventnor, Margate, Longport, Pleasantville, Absecon, Egg Harbor Township, Galloway, Hamilton, Hammonton, Somers Point, Linwood, Northfield, Egg Harbor City, Mullica, Port Republic, and the rest of the twenty-three. Hammonton is this county. Ocean City is Cape May. Cherry Hill is Camden. Newark is Essex.

The Board of County Commissioners is the legislative board. That is not Bergen’s Plaza. That is not Burlington’s commissioner-only map. That is not Camden’s seven-member board without an Executive.
The Sheriff is a constitutional officer, three years, Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2. The County Executive does not hire this badge. The people do. 2026 is this Sheriff’s regular table here. The Governor is 2029 — last regular 4 November 2025, next 6 November 2029. Do not paste a gubernatorial oval onto Unami Boulevard.
Great Egg Harbor and the Pinelands, not the Hudson
The Great Egg Harbor River, the Mullica, Absecon Inlet, and the Atlantic are this water. The Pinelands National Reserve covers the inland half. U.S. 30, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway are this pavement. Atlantic City International Airport sits in Egg Harbor Township. No Palisades as the county story. No Hackensack River as the county hall. Staff who paste a George Washington Bridge onto the Boardwalk are on the wrong county.
How a Shore public actually files a paper
Each municipality has a site. Atlantic City’s site does not speak for Hammonton. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for court, process, warrants, and transport. The Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility at 5060 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing is Adult Detention under the Department of Public Safety — a Warden, not this Sheriff. The County Clerk is at 5901 Main Street, Mays Landing. Do not send a Brigantine family to Trenton for a county paper. Do not send them to Atlantic City tourism for a writ.
Courts in two cities, a jail the Sheriff does not run
Crime in Atlantic City is often Atlantic City Police. Crime in Egg Harbor Township, Galloway, and Hamilton is often those municipal departments. New Jersey State Police is the state. Civil process, Superior Court security, sheriff sales, and fugitive work are this Sheriff. Jail as a local house is the Justice Facility — not this badge. Jail as a long state sentence is the Department of Corrections. Rights do not change at the Ventnor line. Remedy for city police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief in a nor’easter on Absecon Island is this count first.
A student who stays in Hamilton Township
A student uses town pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing at 4997 Unami Boulevard. Stockton University is a campus in Galloway. It is not the Justice Facility. Outreach that only knows casino tourism is not doing Folsom or Weymouth.
