The Mayor of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County is elected at-large by the people of this Metro. The charter is a strong Mayor of a consolidated city-county: the Mayor is the chief executive of both the city and Davidson County as Metro actually runs them. A Metropolitan Council of forty — thirty-five district councilmembers and five at-large — legislates. The Mayor is not a council chair with a manager’s daily desk. That is a clock on this Metro, not a slight.

The term is four years. Regular Metro elections fall in August of odd-numbered years. The last Mayor election was 2023. The next regular Mayor election is Thursday 5 August 2027. This is not the Governor. The Governor file lives at Governor of Tennessee. This is not the Davidson County Sheriff as a separate county executive — Metro is the consolidation. Nashville Fire and Metro Police are this Metro’s departments.

Nashville is the capital of Tennessee, on the Cumberland, in Davidson County. Memphis is not the capital. Knoxville is not the capital. Antioch, Madison, Bordeaux, East Nashville, North Nashville, Donelson, Hermitage, Bellevue, and the neighborhoods that never make a Broadway postcard hire the same Mayor. This river is real. This is not a Gulf beach. This Metro is the whole map.

Politics — one Metro, forty councilors, one night

The Mayor is a Metro executive hired by the voters of Davidson County as consolidated, not by the General Assembly and not by a leftover county court. District councilmembers hold neighborhood inboxes. At-large councilmembers hold the whole Metro. The Mayor holds the night: police, fire, EMS, lights, streets, water, schools as Metro actually runs them. Confirm structure in the Metro Charter. Do not treat a news comment as the charter.

Law — a consolidated charter, not a Memphis file

Metro ordinances, the charter, and Tennessee law that assigns municipal and county duty inside Davidson. Civil process that is a Metro paper is not a neighboring county’s paper. Warrants and bookings that run through Metro Police are a Metro file. The Department of Law is Metro’s lawyer, not the Attorney General of Tennessee — and Tennessee’s Attorney General is appointed by the Supreme Court, a different clock entirely. Always verify the current code on nashville.gov. Ninety-five counties sit on the state map. Davidson is the capital county. It is not the state.

Non-emergency police and Metro’s 311 / hub.nashville.gov portal are how a resident reports a light, a pothole, a missed pickup — not a social-media rumor. Records, permitting, and election lookup belong on official Metro and Davidson County Election Commission sites. Staff who only know a Facebook page are not doing the job.

Justice — the Metro hinge, not a Shelby file

A night arrest in North Nashville is a Metro Police minute. A fire on a triple-decker east of the river is a Nashville Fire minute. The Davidson County Sheriff still exists inside Metro as the jail and process office — a different elected desk. The U.S. Attorney and the District Attorney General are not this Mayor. Equal protection from Antioch to Bellevue is this executive’s duty under the charter and the Constitution. Not a crime-scene postcard. Memphis is Shelby. It is not this river.

Ministry — after a Cumberland flood

Disaster comfort after a river flood, a tornado that takes a block, a winter ice night on a hill in Bellevue — chaplaincy and family liaison as the departments actually staff them. Do not invent a church. Do not turn grief into a slogan. The Mayor’s house is this Metro.

Education — how this job is learned on the Cumberland

Nashville Fire and Metro Police run academies. Trades that keep the lights and the pipes — electrician, HVAC, CDL, water — sit next to this office on Side One. A student who wants the civic path confirms openings on official Metro employment pages, not on a campaign site. Music Row is not a municipal classroom. Metro Schools are a Metro inbox that is not the Mayor’s personal classroom.

Intelligence — the river, the interstate, the weekend crowd

Outreach — Antioch is the city too

Unincorporated Davidson is already inside Metro — this consolidation is the map. Neighborhoods that never make a Lower Broadway postcard still hire this Mayor. Antioch is Metro. Madison is Metro. Staff who only know the AT&T Building are on the wrong office. Schools, houses of worship, and community boards are how the desk talks — official doors, not a viral thread.

How the job fits this community

The inbox is a Metro inbox: a night shift on Nolensville Pike, a fire run that is this hydrant, a Cumberland-flood minute on the waterfront, a heat-day or ice-storm lights-out block that is not a Governor file, and a capital-city minute that is not a neighboring county’s docket.
