The Mayor of Madison is elected at-large by the people of this city. The form is a strong Mayor: the Mayor is the chief executive. The Northwoods, the Driftless, dairy country, and the Fox Valley hire the same Governor. They do not hire this Mayor. These two lakes are real. This is not Lake Michigan. This city is the whole map.

Politics — twenty alders and a spring clock
The Mayor is a city executive hired by the voters of Madison, not by the Legislature and not by a county board. District alders hold neighborhood inboxes. Justice — the city hinge on two lakes
A night arrest on the south side is a Madison Police minute. A fire on a student-block street is a Madison Fire minute. The Dane County Sheriff runs the jail and county process — a different office. The U.S. Attorney and the District Attorney are not this Mayor. Equal protection from the Northside to the Allied Drive neighborhood is this executive’s duty under the code and the Constitution. Not a crime-scene postcard. Milwaukee is the lake port. It is not this isthmus.
Ministry — after a freeze on the isthmus
Disaster comfort after a polar freeze, a lake-effect night that is not Michigan, a fire that takes a student house — chaplaincy and family liaison as the departments actually staff them. Do not invent a church. Do not turn grief into a slogan. The Mayor’s house is this city.
Education — the University is not the city
Madison Fire and Madison Police run academies. Trades that keep the lights and the pipes — electrician, HVAC, CDL, water — sit next to this office on Side One. A student who wants the civic path confirms openings on official city employment pages, not on a campaign site. The University of Wisconsin–Madison is not the municipal desk. Outreach — the Northside is the city too
Unincorporated Dane land is not Madison’s map — this city is the map. Neighborhoods that never make a Capitol Square postcard still hire this Mayor. The Northside is Madison. The south and east sides are Madison. Staff who only know State Street are on the wrong office. Schools, houses of worship, and neighborhood associations are how the desk talks — official doors, not a viral thread.
