Queen Anne's was created in 1706 and named for Queen Anne. It is Eastern Shore. Centreville is the seat. Kent Island — Stevensville, Chester, Grasonville — is the large census map and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge eastern landing. Kent Island is not the county government. This is not Queen Anne, the small town that straddles this county and Talbot. This is not Queen Anne's County as a beach town. This is not Anne Arundel. The western landing of the Bridge is Anne Arundel; the eastern landing is this county. Chestertown is Kent. Easton is Talbot. Denton is Caroline. Delaware is east. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and sits in Anne Arundel.
Places include Centreville, Stevensville, Chester, Grasonville, Queenstown, Church Hill, Sudlersville, Barclay, Crumpton, and Wye Mills. 2020 census: 49,874. Chesapeake College sits at Wye Mills. It is a campus, not the hall. Queenstown was the first county seat. The present courthouse at 100 Court House Square is listed as the oldest courthouse in Maryland in continuous use.

Queen Anne's took code home rule in 1990. Five County Commissioners still sit — four by district, one at large — at the Liberty Building, 107 North Liberty Street, Centreville. There is no County Executive. There is no Queen Anne's County Police Department. The Sheriff is primary law enforcement. Centreville Police is municipal. Maryland State Police Barrack S is the state. Stevensville and Chester are unincorporated — a 911 call on Kent Island outside a town limit is this Sheriff.
The Sheriff is four years, Article IV § 44, 2026 on the State Board of Elections local-office list. The Governor is also 2026 — a different desk. The Town of Centreville is a town clock.
Queenstown was the seat. The Bay Bridge lands here.
The Chester River is north. The Corsica is this water at Centreville. The Wye is south toward Talbot. U.S. 50 / 301 and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge are this pavement. Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area is this refuge. This is not Ocean City. This is not Rehoboth. Staff who paste a Queen Anne in Prince George’s onto Court House Square, or a western-shore toll plaza onto Stevensville, are on the wrong county. Kent Island is Queen Anne's. Kent County is Chestertown.

The Board of Elections is at 110 Vincit Street, Suite 102, Centreville — not 505 Railroad Avenue, not 500 Little Hut Drive, not Stevensville, not Annapolis. A family on Romancoke Road registers here, not in Anne Arundel. Each municipality has a site. Centreville’s town site does not speak for Sudlersville. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for patrol, process, and court.

Crime in the unincorporated county — including Kent Island, Grasonville, and Church Hill — is this Sheriff. Crime in Centreville is often town police. Jail as a local house is the Queen Anne's County Detention Center at 500 Little Hut Drive, Centreville, listed by the Maryland Manual as a Department of Corrections with a Warden. It is not this Sheriff’s jailer split. Civil process and Circuit Court security at 100 Court House Square are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Chester River. Remedy for Centreville Police is the Town. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when the Bay comes up at Matapeake is this count first.

A student uses town pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing. Chesapeake College is a campus at Wye Mills. It is not the Detention Center. District Court sits at 120 Broadway. Outreach that only knows a Bridge photograph is not doing Sudlersville.
