The Shore county that does not touch the Bay
Caroline was erected 1773 from Dorchester and Queen Anne’s and named for Lady Caroline Eden. It is the inland Eastern Shore. Denton is the seat, on the Choptank. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and sits in Anne Arundel. This county does not border the Chesapeake. Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Dorchester do. Staff who paste a Bay beach onto Market Street, or treat Easton as this hall, are on the wrong county.
Places include Denton, Federalsburg, Greensboro, Ridgely, Preston, Goldsboro, Henderson, Hillsboro, Marydel, and Templeville. Marydel sits on the Delaware line. Easton is Talbot. Cambridge is Dorchester. Salisbury is Wicomico. Ocean City is Worcester.

Code home rule, three commissioners, Denton
Caroline adopted code home rule under Article XI-F in 1984. The Board of County Commissioners is three members, elected countywide, four-year terms, same gubernatorial table. Not a County Executive. Not Anne Arundel’s charter. Not Cecil’s 2012 charter. Commissioners sit at 109 Market Street. Fort Meade is Anne Arundel. Indian Head is Charles. This Shore is not those posts.
The Sheriff is four years, Article IV § 44, 2026 on the State Board of Elections local-office list. The Governor is also 2026 — a different desk. The Mayor of Denton is a town clock.
Choptank and Marshyhope, not Spa Creek
The Choptank and Marshyhope Creek are this water. Tuckahoe is shared with Queen Anne’s. Maryland 404 is this pavement. This is not a mountain county. This is not Ocean City. Staff who paste the Cumberland Narrows onto Denton, or a Worcester boardwalk onto Federalsburg, are on the wrong county.
Health & Public Services holds the elections office
The Board of Elections is at the Health and Public Services Building, 403 South Seventh Street, Suite 247, Denton — not the courthouse cupola, not Easton, not Annapolis. A family in Federalsburg registers here, not in Towson, not in Cumberland. Each municipality has a site. Denton’s site does not speak for Greensboro. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for patrol, process, and court. The Department of Corrections listing speaks for 101 Gay Street.
A Double Hills patrol is not Gay Street custody
Crime in the unincorporated county is this Sheriff. Crime in Denton, Federalsburg, or Greensboro is often town police. Jail as a local house is Corrections on Gay Street — split from this badge in 1995. Civil process and Circuit Court security are the Sheriff at 9305 Double Hills Road. Rights do not change at the Ridgely line. Remedy for town police is that department. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief in a Choptank flood is this count first.
