Anne Arundel County · Annapolis · the capital sits here

Named for Lady Anne. The dome is this county.

Anne Arundel was erected 1650 and named for Lady Anne Arundell. It is the capital county. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and the county seat. The wooden-dome State House sits on this map. Baltimore is larger and is not the capital. Baltimore City is an independent city. Towson is Baltimore County’s seat. Cumberland is Allegany. Prince Frederick is Calvert.

Places include Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Severna Park, Pasadena, Odenton, Crofton, Edgewater, Deale, Shady Side, Brooklyn Park, Linthicum, Arnold, and Mayo. BWI is in this county. Fort Meade is in this county and is federal. Ocean City is Worcester. Salisbury is Wicomico.

This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — court, warrants, process, not County Police — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Anne Arundel County.

Charter Executive, County Police, a different jailer

Anne Arundel is a charter county: County Executive plus County Council. County Police (Millersville) is the primary patrol. Department of Detention Facilities runs Jennifer Road and Ordnance Road. The Sheriff is a constitutional officer on Church Circle, not a bureau of the Executive. Cities and the County still run municipal and county police, fire, and schools. The Naval Academy is federal land in Annapolis and is not a county department.

The Sheriff is four years, Article IV § 44, 2026 on the State Board of Elections local-office list. The Governor is also 2026 — a different desk. The Mayor of Annapolis is 2029.

Severn and the Bay, not the Narrows

The Severn, South River, Magothy, and the Chesapeake are this water. Spa Creek is this harbor. This is not a mountain county. This is not Ocean City. Staff who paste the Cumberland Narrows onto Church Circle, or a Worcester boardwalk onto Deale, are on the wrong county.

Glen Burnie holds the elections office

The Board of Elections is at 6740 Baymeadow Drive, Glen Burnie — not the State House, not Church Circle. A family in Deale registers here, not in Towson, not in Cumberland. Each municipality has a site. Annapolis’s site does not speak for Odenton. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for process and court. Detention Facilities’ listing speaks for Jennifer Road. County Police speak for 911.

Federal posts are not county departments

BWI, Fort Meade / NSA, and the Naval Academy sit on this map and remain federal. A student uses county pages, the State jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing. Outreach that only knows a harbor tour is not doing Brooklyn Park.

Courts, Police, Detention, rights

Crime and fire in the unincorporated county are County Police and fire. Crime in Annapolis is often Annapolis Police. Jail as a local house is Detention Facilities. Civil process and Circuit Court security are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Odenton line. Remedy for County Police is that department. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief in a South River flood is this count first.
