What this office is
A United States Senator is a federal legislator elected by the whole state. Maine has two Senate seats. This page is Class II — one of those two. The term is six years. Class II last stood in the regular election of 2020. The next regular election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The term of record runs through 3 January 2027.
Maine has no Class III. The other seat is Class I.
This is not a House district. Augusta is the capital. Portland is not the map. Bath is not Bangor. The woods counties and the island towns hire the same Senator.

How the job fits this community
Class II is the seat on the 2026 ballot. The inbox is a state inbox: a capital file from the granite State House on the Kennebec, a shipyard and working-waterfront file, a paper-and-forest file, a potato-and-County file that never makes the national news, and a VA clinic west of the interstate.
Federal work here is fisheries, a border crossing, a delayed federal permit, SSA, veterans’ claims, and a heating-oil winter that is not a city press conference. The Senator is the human hinge between this map and Washington.

There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Augusta and a visitor from Aroostook. In the state: a State House desk and a two-lane day that is not the same as Maine’s 1st House district.
