What this office is

A United States Senator is a federal legislator elected by the whole state. Hawaii has two Senate seats. This page is Class III — the other of those two. The term is six years. Class III last stood in the regular election of 2022. The next regular election is 2028. The term of record runs through 3 January 2029.

Florida and Ohio Class III specials in 2026 are not this office. Hawaii Class III is not on the 2026 Senate ballot.

This is not a House district. Hilo is not Honolulu. Kahului is not Lihue. Kona is not Kaneohe. They still hire the same Senator.

How the job fits this community

Class III is the nearer remaining regular clock of Hawaii’s two seats. The geography is still the state: a working-harbor and volcano inbox on the Big Island, a neighbor-island farm and visitor-industry inbox, a Pacific military inbox that is not a postcard, and a metro that already has a Class I inbox. Senate casework does not stop at Honolulu County.

Federal work here is a port, a base, a homestead or trust-land file, a VA clinic, and a delayed federal permit on one payroll. The Senator is the human hinge between that statewide map and Washington.

  • Advice and consent. Nominations and treaties.
