What this office is

A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. Virginia’s 10th is one of the Commonwealth’s eleven House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.

This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

How the job fits this community

Virginia’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is the 2021 Special Masters map that has been in force since 2022, unless a higher court later says otherwise. A mid-decade map was put to voters in April 2026; the Supreme Court of Virginia voided that referendum on 8 May 2026. Do not treat a campaign graphic from that fight as the ballot. Confirm on ELECT.

The 10th on that map is outer Northern Virginia: Loudoun County (Leesburg, Ashburn, Sterling country) and neighboring Prince William / Fairfax / Fauquier pieces on the official drawing. Those counties are split. Confirm the address.

Federal work here is a fast-growing suburb and remaining horse-and-farm country at the western edge. Loudoun files like a data-center and commute county: passports, USCIS, SSA. The rural edge files smaller. The same office holds both.

The Representative is the human hinge between this outer-NOVA map and Washington.

What the job entails

  • Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
  • The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
  • Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
  • Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
  • District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
  • Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.

What a day is like

There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Ashburn. In the district: a Loudoun desk and a western-edge stop that does not look like the Dulles corridor.

The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
