What this office is
A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. Utah’s 4th is one of the state’s four House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.
This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

How the job fits this community
Utah’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is the map the Third District Court ordered on 10 November 2025 — the plaintiff plan, not the legislature’s October 2025 redraw. The Utah Supreme Court rejected the appeal on 20 February 2026. Confirm on the Lieutenant Governor and voter search. Salt Lake County is split. The old four-way Salt Lake pizza is retired.
On the 2025 court drawing the 4th is western Utah — Tooele, Juab, Millard, Sanpete, Sevier — plus south Salt Lake County and Utah County pieces: Sandy, Draper, South Jordan, Tooele. Salt Lake County is split with the 1st. This is not the old south-valley-only 4th. Confirm the address.
Federal work here is a south-valley suburb and a long west-desert drive. Sandy and South Jordan file passports and a commute inbox. Tooele files a depot-and-county-seat climate. The rural west files USDA. Staff who only know the mall corridor are not doing the 2025 job.
The Representative is the human hinge between this 2025 west-and-south-valley map and Washington.
What the job entails
- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
- Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
- District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
- Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Sandy and a visitor from Tooele. In the district: a south-valley desk and a west-desert stop.
The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
