What this office is
A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. Texas’s 3rd is one of the state’s 38 House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.
This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

How the job fits this community
Texas’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is PlanC2333 (HB 4), signed 29 August 2025. A federal court blocked it; the U.S. Supreme Court stayed that order on 4 December 2025. Unless a later order says otherwise, PlanC2333 is the map — not the 2021 lines. Confirm on VoteTexas and the official district viewer. Look up the address.
The 3rd is eastern Collin and Hunt, plus the I-30 corridor east: eastern Plano, McKinney, Allen, Wylie, Greenville, Sulphur Springs, Mount Pleasant. Plano is split. Most of Plano and Frisco are the 4th. Confirm the address.
Federal work here is a Collin inbox and an I-30 inbox. McKinney and Allen file north Collin. Eastern Plano files one side of a split city. Mount Pleasant files a far-east county. Staff who treat all of Plano as this seat are not doing the job.
The Representative is the human hinge between this eastern-Plano-and-I-30 map and Washington.
What the job entails
- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
- Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
- District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
- Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from McKinney and a visitor from Mount Pleasant. In the district: a Collin desk and a Titus desk.
The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
