What this office is

A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. New York’s 25th is one of the state’s 26 House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.

This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

Confirm the current Member and the official map on House.gov — Find your Representative and the Clerk of the House.

How the job fits this community

New York’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is the map the legislature passed and the Governor signed on 28 February 2024 (S.8653A / A.9310A). It is not the 2022 special-master map. A January 2026 order against the 11th was stayed by the U.S. Supreme Court on 2 March 2026; that case was then dismissed. Confirm on the State Board of Elections and voter lookup. Western New York is split. Look up the address.

The 25th is Rochester and all of Monroe County, plus Victor in Ontario. This is not the old Syracuse-to-Webster 25th. Canandaigua is the 24th. Syracuse is the 22nd. Confirm the town.

Federal work here is a Rochester inbox and a Monroe-County inbox. The city files a downtown, a hospital row, and a lake. Irondequoit and Greece file a suburb. Henrietta files a campus. Victor is the Ontario toe. Staff who still file Syracuse here are on the 2003–2013 map.

The Representative is the human hinge between this Rochester map and Washington.

What the job entails

  • Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
  • The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
  • Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
  • Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
  • District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
  • Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.

What a day is like

There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Rochester and a visitor from Irondequoit. In the district: a lake-city desk.

The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.

Place snapshot (verify official sources)

  • State: New York · Seat: District 25 of 26
  • On the 2024 legislature map: Rochester / all of Monroe / Victor
  • Not Syracuse. Canandaigua is the 24th.

Orientation adapted from public congressional-district descriptions and New York official election sources for education. The map and the Member of record are whatever the State Board of Elections and House.gov say today.

What this is not

  • Not a U.S. Senator (statewide, six-year term).
  • Not the Governor.
  • Not a mayor, or a county executive.
  • Not a campaign flyer. This page does not tell anyone who to vote for.
