What this office is
A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. Florida’s 7th is one of the state’s 28 House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.
This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

How the job fits this community
Florida’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is HB 1D, signed 4 May 2026. North Florida’s 1st through 7th were not redrawn — those lines are the 2022 lines. The 8th is the first seat that moved. Litigation is pending. Unless a court says otherwise, HB 1D is the map. Confirm on the Division of Elections and voter lookup. Look up the address.
The 7th is all of Seminole County — Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood, Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Winter Springs, Oviedo — plus south Volusia: Deltona, Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, DeBary, Orange City. Daytona Beach proper is the 6th. This is not downtown Orlando, Winter Park, or UCF. Orange County left this seat in 2022, and HB 1D did not put it back. UCF is the 10th. Confirm the address.
Federal work here is a suburb inbox and a south-Volusia inbox. Seminole files the I-4 north-of-Orlando suburbs. Deltona files a large inland city. New Smyrna and Port Orange file the south beach. Staff who still file Winter Park, downtown Orlando, or UCF here are on the 2015–2022 map. Staff who file Daytona Beach here are one town too far north.
The Representative is the human hinge between this Seminole-and-south-Volusia map and Washington.
What the job entails
- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
- Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
- District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
- Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Sanford and a visitor from New Smyrna Beach. In the district: a Seminole desk and a south-Volusia desk.
The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.
