What this office is

A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. Florida’s 13th is one of the state’s 28 House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.

This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

Confirm the current Member and the official map on House.gov — Find your Representative and the Clerk of the House.

How the job fits this community

Florida’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is HB 1D, signed 4 May 2026. The 1st through 7th were not redrawn. This seat moved. Tampa is now split three ways. Pinellas County is the 13th and the 16th only. Litigation is pending. Unless a court says otherwise, HB 1D is the map. Confirm on the Division of Elections and voter lookup. Look up the address.

The 13th is redrawn. It used to sit entirely in Pinellas, hugging the Gulf including Clearwater. HB 1D drops southern Pinellas and takes about 62,000 people in Pasco. South Pinellas — including a large St. Petersburg share — is the 16th. Pinellas voters who were in the old 14th may now be here or in the 16th. Confirm on VotePinellas.

Federal work here is a Pinellas-coast inbox and a new Pasco inbox. Clearwater and the mid-county coast file the remaining core. The south-county commute that used to sit here now files with Manatee. Staff who still treat all of Pinellas as this seat, or who file St. Petersburg here without looking it up, are on the 2022 map.

The Representative is the human hinge between this Pinellas-and-Pasco map and Washington.

What the job entails

  • Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
  • The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
  • Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
  • Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
  • District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
  • Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.

What a day is like

There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from mid-Pinellas and a visitor from Pasco. In the district: a Pinellas desk and a Pasco desk.

The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.

Place snapshot (verify official sources)

  • State: Florida · Seat: District 13 of 28
  • On HB 1D (redrawn): north/central Pinellas + a Pasco share
  • South Pinellas is the 16th. Not all of Pinellas.

Orientation adapted from public congressional-district descriptions and Florida official election sources for education. The map and the Member of record are whatever the Division of Elections and House.gov say today.

What this is not

  • Not a U.S. Senator (statewide, six-year term).
  • Not the Governor.
  • Not a county commission, or a mayor.
  • Not a campaign flyer. This page does not tell anyone who to vote for.
