What this office is
A United States Representative is a federal legislator elected from one congressional district. California’s 37th is one of the state’s 52 House seats. The term is two years. The whole House stands for election every even-numbered year.
This page is Side One: inform, educate, inspire. It is not the race, not legal advice, and not an official government notice. For the 2026 cycle, use the election twin.

How the job fits this community
California’s congressional map for the 2026 ballot is Proposition 50 (AB 604), adopted by voters on 4 November 2025. The U.S. Supreme Court allowed the map in February 2026. Unless a later order says otherwise, Proposition 50 is the map — not the 2021 Citizens Redistricting Commission lines. Confirm on the California Secretary of State and the voter-status lookup. Look up the address.
The 37th is most of Culver City, Ladera Heights, View Park–Windsor Hills, and a large Los Angeles city share on the south and west side. Santa Monica and Beverly Hills are the 36th. Culver City is not entire — look the address up.
Federal work here is a Culver City inbox and a south-Los-Angeles inbox. Ladera Heights files the unincorporated hills. The city share is Los Angeles — look the street up. Staff who treat Santa Monica or all of Culver City as this seat are on the wrong number.
The Representative is the human hinge between this Culver-City-and-south-L.A. map and Washington.
What the job entails
- Legislate. Introduce and cosponsor bills. Sit on committees. Vote.
- The purse. The House originates revenue bills. Appropriations decide what actually gets built or staffed.
- Oversight. Hearings and letters that watch the executive branch.
- Casework. SSA, VA, IRS, USCIS, military records, passports.
- District presence. Town halls, city halls, employers, schools — the district is the employer.
- Two homes. Washington for votes and committees. The district for the people who hired the office.
What a day is like
There is no single Tuesday. In Washington: a visitor from Culver City and a visitor from south Los Angeles. In the district: a Los Angeles desk.
The staff is the office. A serious Member is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy.

Orientation adapted from public congressional-district descriptions and California official election sources for education. The map and the Member of record are whatever the Secretary of State and House.gov say today.
