Presidential years — 2026 is not the class

South Carolina elects all forty-six State Senators together, every four years, in presidential years. Last regular class: 5 November 2024. Next regular class: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Do not invent a 2026 regular Senate race. Do not transplant Pennsylvania’s even-number stagger onto Columbia.
District 15 remainder, not forty-six desks
- Regular chamber: not on 3 November 2026.
- House: all 124 South Carolina House seats are on 2026. That is a different chamber.
- Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and the other statewide desks: 2026. Those are not this Senate.
- Senate remainders: the State Election Commission posted a District 15 special for Tuesday, 3 November 2026 (primary 1 September 2026; runoff 15 September 2026 if a district actually needed one). Confirm whether this district is actually on the sample ballot on scvotes.gov. A special is a remainder. It is not the forty-six-desk class.
This page is not a U.S. Senate race, though South Carolina’s Class II is on 2026. That is Washington. This is Columbia. It is not the Governor race. It is not a fake “hire forty-six Senators” mailer.

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins. If the sample ballot has no State Senate line, there is no State Senate race in that precinct this year.
Specials run on the twentieth Tuesday
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the State Ethics Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the State Election Commission and the county board. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A hole in this chamber is filled by special election (S.C. Code § 7-13-190): primary on the eleventh Tuesday after the vacancy, runoff on the thirteenth if needed, special on the twentieth — or on the next general if that Tuesday falls inside sixty days of it. That is why District 15 can appear in 2026 without a regular class. Confirm on scvotes.gov. Do not invent a Governor appointment. Do not invent Pennsylvania’s writ.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to scstatehouse.gov and scvotes.gov.
A hurricane track and a Congaree rise
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A Lowcountry hurricane, a Congaree flood, an Upcountry ice night — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or road statute that was already on the calendar.
Charleston is South Carolina. It is not the capital. Greenville is South Carolina. It is not North Carolina. Mutual aid with a North Carolina or Georgia county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
Monday after the election is still the oath
A remainder is still a Senator: bills, confirmations, a budget vote, a district office that returns the call. The term ends when that desk’s regular class ends — January 2029 after the 2028 whole-chamber election — unless the official posting says otherwise. Confirm the remainder on .gov.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The State House is the session. The district is the hire.
A remainder winner takes office under the same Monday clause as a regular Senator: the Monday following the election, unless the statute for that vacancy says otherwise. After 3 November 2026 that Monday is 9 November 2026. Confirm the oath on scstatehouse.gov.
2028 is the hire
Due process on this clock: no regular Senate primary for forty-six desks in 2026; a House primary (already 9 June 2026) and general that are real; Senate remainders only where the State Election Commission actually posted them. South Carolina does not run all-mail as the default. Polls, voter ID rules, absentee, and registration deadlines belong on scvotes.gov. Do not teach a shortcut.
Do not transplant Pennsylvania’s even-number stagger onto South Carolina. Do not transplant Rhode Island’s all-up two-year clock. South Carolina is all forty-six, every four years, in a presidential year. 2024 was the class. 2028 is the class. 2026 is the exception file.
The Constitution does not pause because the Senate sits this year. Equal protection does not pause because a district is Lowcountry.
Equal protection in forty-six counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Gervais Street and in a Pee Dee precinct. Equal protection in forty-six counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows — including a sample ballot with no Senate line.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Columbia as the state, Charleston as the capital, or the Battery as South Carolina. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself. It must not pretend 2026 is 2028.
Columbia is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The State Election Commission is the door.
