- Delaware’s primary is 15 September 2026.
- Title 29, § 806 puts eleven senatorial districts on this class: 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20. The other ten sit until 2028.
Do not invent a 2026 race for a district that is not on that list. Confirm any special on elections.delaware.gov.
This is a regular State Senate class on the 2-4-4 clock. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Delaware’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. It is not the Governor race. It is not the State House — that is 41 seats, a different chamber, all on this Tuesday.

A writ, not a comment
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the Public Integrity Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Department of Elections. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to legis.delaware.gov and elections.delaware.gov.
If a 2026 Senate seat goes empty, the presiding officer’s writ — or the Governor’s, if the Assembly is out — is the door. That is a special election for the residue. It is not a vacancy committee.
A hurricane that is not Miami's
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A nor’easter over the Delaware Bay, a flood on the Christina, a Sussex poultry night — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the hospital or beach statute that was already on the calendar.
Wilmington is Delaware. It is not Pennsylvania. Fenwick is Delaware. It is not Maryland. Mutual aid with a Maryland or New Jersey county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
What this class actually buys
Bills. Confirmations. A January-to-June session. A district office that returns the call from a Sussex precinct that never makes a Wilmington broadcast. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a confirmation notice, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Legislative Hall is the session. The district is the hire. This class is four years for the eleven that stand — not two, unless a remainder or a post-census hitch the statute actually wrote.
The day next after the election
Due process on this hire: a primary on 15 September 2026, a special if a writ was actually issued, a general on 3 November 2026. Delaware does not run Alabama’s midnight clock and does not wait until January to begin the term. Article II, Section 3: terms begin the day next after election. The oath and the second-Tuesday-of-January convening are the public hour. Confirm on Legislative Hall.
Do not transplant Connecticut’s all-up two-year clock onto Delaware. Eleven of twenty-one are this class. The other ten sit.
The Constitution does not pause because the map is three counties. Equal protection does not pause because a district is a beach town or a farm hundred.
Rights this chamber must not run over
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on The Green and in a Sussex precinct. Equal protection in three counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Wilmington as the capital, Rehoboth as the whole map, or a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Dover is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The Department of Elections is the door.
