Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2: three years. Salem last stood in the regular election of 2024. Bolts puts Salem with Bergen, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, and Passaic on the 2024 + 3 table.
Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not a Salem sheriff general. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 in New Jersey. U.S. House is 2026. Mercer — the capital — is 2026. Union is 2026. The Governor is 2029. This badge is not those ovals.
- Next regular general: Tuesday, 2 November 2027.
- Primary that cycle: confirm the Division of Elections calendar when 2027 posts (odd-year June typical).
- Take office after 2027: Saturday, 1 January 2028.
- Vacancy before then: Governor appointment, Senate advice and consent, same party (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-102) — not a made-up November 2026 oval.
Clerk sits on Fifth Street
The County Clerk lists with Salem County government at 110 Fifth Street, Salem. That Clerk is not this oval. Confirm registration and any 2026 other offices on nj.gov/state/elections and voter.svrs.nj.gov. If Sheriff is absent from a 2026 Salem sample ballot, that is the clock.

You are not hiring a Salem Sheriff on the 2026 general. You are hiring this desk in 2027: court at 92 Market Street, civil process across fifteen municipalities, the jail at 125 Cemetery Road, Woodstown, transport the court orders. You are not hiring Salem City Police. You are not hiring the Gloucester County Sheriff (that Woodbury desk is also 2027, a different oval, and that jail is Corrections). You are not hiring the Cape May County Sheriff (that peninsula desk is 2026). You are not hiring the Governor.

A bad service or a sale that missed Pittsgrove — this Sheriff’s door and the courts. Five Commissioners are not the substitute for a paper. Not a comment section. Not Penns Grove as the county.

Ice on the Delaware Memorial Bridge approach, a freeze that closes Route 49, a storm that floods the river wards — this county’s mutual aid first. Gloucester’s Woodbury streets are a different count. Cumberland’s Bridgeton streets are a different count. Salem iced on this river before. That corridor is still this count.
Service — papers, Market Street, a jail this badge still holds
Papers. A Market Street courtroom. A night booking at 125 Cemetery Road. A night transport the court ordered. That purchase does not pause because the next regular hire is 2027.
Due process does not wait for a Massachusetts rumor
A levy in Alloway still needs notice. A sale still needs the uniform procedures. The Constitution does not pause because a visitor thinks this is Salem, Massachusetts, or thinks Penns Grove is the county hall.
