Sheriff Election — Passaic County, New Jersey

Passaic Sheriff · the arena · Paterson waits until 2027 to hire this desk
This is Side Two
This page is the arena for this office. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin. The county as a place is taught at Passaic County.
It is not a campaign. Names belong on the official sample ballot — when this office is on it. No crown. Do not invent a 2026 name.
Paterson hires the Sheriff in 2027
Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2: three years. Passaic last stood in the regular election of 2024. Bolts puts Passaic with Bergen, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, and Salem on the 2024 + 3 table.
Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not a Passaic sheriff general. Class II U.S. Senate is 2026 in New Jersey. U.S. House is 2026. The Governor is 2029. Mercer — the capital — is 2026. Monmouth, Morris, and Ocean are 2028. This badge is not those ovals.
- Next regular general: Tuesday, 2 November 2027.
- Primary that cycle: confirm the Division of Elections calendar when 2027 posts (odd-year June typical).
- Take office after 2027: Saturday, 1 January 2028.
- Vacancy before then: Governor appointment, Senate advice and consent, same party (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-102) — not a made-up November 2026 oval.
County Clerk sits at 401 Grand Street
The County Clerk lists at the Passaic County Administration Building, 401 Grand Street, Paterson. That Clerk is not this oval. Confirm registration and any 2026 other offices on nj.gov/state/elections and voter.svrs.nj.gov. If Sheriff is absent from a 2026 Passaic sample ballot, that is the clock.
Sample ballot on a Falls map
Do not take names from a city-as-county rumor or a capital comment thread.

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
What you are not hiring in 2026
You are not hiring a Passaic Sheriff on the 2026 general. You are hiring this desk in 2027: court at 77 Hamilton Street, civil process across sixteen municipalities, patrol this listing actually names, transport to another county’s jail. You are not hiring Paterson Police. You are not hiring a jailer at 11 Marshall Street — that house is gone. You are not hiring the Bergen County Sheriff (that Hackensack desk is also 2027, a different oval). You are not hiring the Governor.
Read the office page for why shared services with Bergen and Hudson is the live jail split.
Remedy on a seven-commissioner map
A bad service or a sale that missed West Milford — this Sheriff’s door, Internal Affairs, and the courts. Seven Commissioners are not the substitute for a paper. Not a comment section. Not the City of Passaic as the county.
Relief when ice closes Route 23
Ice on Interstate 80, a freeze that closes Route 23 into the Highlands, a storm that floods the river wards — this county’s mutual aid first. Bergen’s Hackensack streets are a different count. Essex’s Newark streets are a different count. Paterson iced on this river before. That corridor is still this count.
Service — papers, Hamilton Street, transport to Hackensack
Papers. A Hamilton Street courtroom. A night transport to South River Street because this county does not operate a jail. That purchase does not pause because the next regular hire is 2027.
Due process does not wait for a city-as-county rumor
A levy in Clifton still needs notice. A sale still needs the uniform procedures. The Constitution does not pause because a visitor thinks Paterson is the capital, or thinks the City of Passaic is the county hall.
Rights from Passaic City to West Milford
Equal protection on the Falls-and-Highlands map. Counsel. Property. Honest process. A Passaic City tenant and a West Milford household hire the same Sheriff.
