What this office is

The Mayor of Indianapolis is elected by the people of Marion County. Since Unigov (1970) the Mayor is chief executive of both the city and the county. The charter is strong Mayor–Council: a 25-member City-County Council legislates. Four excluded cities inside the county — Beech Grove, Lawrence, Speedway, Southport — still elect their own Mayors for local work. That split is a clock, not a slight. The term is four years. The next regular Mayor election is 2027 (odd-year November). Confirm the clock, and the Mayor of record, on official Indianapolis sites. Do not invent a 2026 Mayor race for this city.

This is not the Governor. The Governor file lives at Governor of Indiana. This is not a separate Marion County Sheriff race as the whole map of this office — Indianapolis Fire and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are this consolidated city’s departments.

Indianapolis is the capital of Indiana, on the White River, at Monument Circle. Fort Wayne is not the capital. Evansville is not the capital.
