What this office is
The Mayor of Annapolis is elected at-large by the people of this city. The charter is a mayor–council form with a strong Mayor: the Mayor and eight Alderpersons sit as the City Council; the Mayor is the chief executive, chairs the Council, and has one vote like an Alderperson. A City Manager runs the day-to-day. The Mayor must devote full time to the office and has formal oversight of the City Manager and the Office of Law. That is a clock on this city, not a slight.
The term is four years. No person may hold office as Mayor for more than two consecutive full terms. Municipal elections fall on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in the year after a presidential year. The last Mayor election was 4 November 2025. The next regular Mayor election is 2029. Confirm the clock, and the Mayor of record, on official Annapolis sites. Do not invent a 2026 Mayor race for this city. 2026 is a federal and state year. It is not this municipal clock.
This is not the Governor. The Governor file lives at Governor of Maryland. This is not the Anne Arundel County Sheriff. Annapolis Police and Annapolis Fire are this city’s departments.
Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, in Anne Arundel County, on the Severn and Spa Creek, at the head of the Chesapeake sailing harbor. Baltimore is not the capital. The Maryland State House wooden dome, City Dock, and the neighborhoods that never make a Naval Academy postcard hire the same Mayor. The Academy is federal. This harbor is real. This is not an ocean beach. This city is the whole map.
