The 2029 clock — not 2026
- Next regular Mayor election: 2029 (four-year municipal clock; last Mayor election 4 November 2025; sitting term through 31 December 2029 on the city’s elected-officials page)
- Not 2026. Santa Fe does not elect a Mayor in even federal years. New Mexico’s 2026 statewide ballot is a different hiring. Do not invent a 2026 Mayor race for this city.
- Ranked-choice / instant-runoff is how this city finishes a Mayor race. Confirm the current method with the City Clerk. A thread is not the ranking.
Polls, early voting, and absentee in New Mexico are a state machine run locally. Confirm dates, ID, and the sample ballot with the City Clerk, the Santa Fe County Clerk, and sos.nm.gov. Anyone in line at close may vote if the official notice says so. Print the Clerk’s notice, not a memory.

You are hiring the Mayor of Santa Fe for this city — four years, full-time chief executive, a City Manager the Mayor appoints with Council consent, eight district Councilors as the check, ranked-choice as the finish. When the ranking is over and a night still went wrong

After the arroyo, the freeze, the slope fire
Monsoon that takes an arroyo. A winter outage at 7,000 feet. A wildland fire off the Sangre de Cristo. A freeze that breaks a southside pipe. Mutual aid with the county, surrounding towns, and pueblo departments is real. Albuquerque is not Santa Fe’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first.
911 is the life call. Constituent Services and the CRM are the next morning’s work order. Confirm flood, road, and fire closures on official city and National Weather Service products — not on a group chat.
What four high-desert years buy
Four years of a full-time chief executive. Police night shift. Fire and EMS. Plows and sand on Cerrillos. Trash. A municipal utility window. A CRM that actually closes tickets. A budget the governing body can see. Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A ladder company on an adobe block. Streetlights on a southside street that never makes a Plaza postcard.
The staff is the office. A serious Mayor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest CRM, no rumor as policy. You are not hiring a Governor. You are not hiring a sheriff. You are not hiring Albuquerque.
The clock on Lincoln Avenue
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings, civil service, union clocks. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Ranked-choice tabulation, filing dates, and residency are rights with a procedure, not slogans. Charter, ordinance, and the Local Election Act set the dates. Do not teach a shortcut.
A vacancy and a recall, if anyone files one, are written machines. Confirm with the Clerk, not with a thread. Term limit: two consecutive four-year terms. Confirm the current charter text.
Rights this altitude must not run over
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on the Plaza and in the neighborhoods — the Roundhouse lawn is state ground; the neighborhoods are city. Equal protection from the Plaza to Airport Road, for Spanish, English, and the languages this city actually speaks at the window. Disability access at the Clerk’s counter. The right to a sample ballot that is the Clerk’s, not a PAC’s. The right to have every ranking counted as the charter actually counts it.
The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Albuquerque is not this vote. 2026 is not this race.
