You are hiring the Mayor of Helena for this city — four years, one of five voting commissioners, a City Manager on the daily desk. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan. Billings is a different city.
Remedy — when a Helena street went wrong
A resident who was mistreated files on the city’s official complaint and professional-standards doors, not on a comment section. Internal affairs for police, fire investigation for fire, the City Commission as a check, and the courts. The City-County Building is not a comment section. Send people to helenamt.gov.
Relief — fire weather before the state desk
Wildland fire at the urban edge, blizzard, heat, a wreck on the Divide approach, a water-main break on the south hills. Mutual aid with surrounding districts is real. East Helena is not Helena’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first.
Service — Last Chance is the job
Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A plow on a mountain street. A ladder company on the gulch. Streetlights. The staff is the office. A serious Mayor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest service requests, no rumor as policy.
Due process — four years is the clock
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Civil service and union clocks are real. Montana law sets nomination and election procedure for this non-partisan commission. Do not teach a shortcut.
Rights — south hills to the gulch
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Last Chance Gulch and in the neighborhoods. Equal protection from every Neighborhood Council district. The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand.
