What you are hiring
You are hiring the Mayor of Columbia for this city — four years, council-manager charter, City Manager for the daily departments, City Council as the check. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan.
Remedy — midlands complaint, not a Lowcountry thread
A resident who was mistreated files on the city’s official complaint and professional-standards doors, not on a comment section. Internal affairs for police, fire investigation for fire, the City Council as a check, and the courts. The Richland County Sheriff is not this Mayor’s complaint box. Send people to columbiasc.gov.
Relief — the Congaree before the state desk
A Congaree flood, a heat night, a fire on a Vista block, a pines-and-storm outage. Mutual aid with Cayce and West Columbia is real. Those cities are not Columbia’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first.
Service — what a manager city still buys from a Mayor
Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A ladder company on Assembly Street. Streetlights. A 311 that tells the truth. The City Manager runs the day. The Mayor still owes the people a serious principal: clear priorities, honest service, no rumor as policy.
Due process — four years, not a 2026 shortcut
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Civil service and union clocks are real. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not move this race onto the 2026 statewide ballot.
Rights — Eau Claire and the Vista in one hire
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Main Street and in the neighborhoods. Equal protection from Shandon to Eau Claire. The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Charleston does not vote here. The midlands do.
