What you are hiring
You are hiring the Mayor of Charleston for this city — four years, mayor–council charter, ward and at-large councilors as the check. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan.
Remedy — a Kanawha complaint is a city paper
A resident who was mistreated files on the city’s official complaint and professional-standards doors, not on a comment section. Police professional standards, fire investigation, the City Council as a check, and the courts. The Kanawha County Sheriff is not this Mayor’s complaint box. Send people to charlestonwv.gov.
Relief — the river before the state desk
A Kanawha flood, a hillside ice night, a chemical drill the valley still knows how to run, a fire on a West Side block. Mutual aid with South Charleston is real. That city is not Charleston’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first. The Atlantic is not this valley.
Service — what a four-year hire actually buys
Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A plow on a hillside street. A ladder company on the river. Streetlights. 311 that tells the truth. The staff is the office. A serious Mayor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest cwv311, no rumor as policy.
Due process — November, not a comment-section shortcut
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Civil service and union clocks are real. There is no term-limit clock on this Mayor. Do not teach a shortcut.
Rights — the West Side is on this hire too
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Capitol Street and in the neighborhoods. Equal protection from the East End to the West Side. The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Huntington does not vote here. Charleston, South Carolina, does not vote here. Kanawha’s capital city does.
