- Next regular Mayor election: second Tuesday in June 2030 (four-year municipal clock; last Mayor election 9 June 2026; term from 1 July)
- Not November 2026. Bismarck’s municipal already ran in June 2026. Do not invent a November Mayor race for this city. North Dakota’s November 2026 statewide ballot is a different hiring.
- City elections are the second Tuesday in June of even-numbered years. Special elections only when the Commission calls them.
Polls, absentee, and mail in North Dakota are a state machine run locally. Confirm with the City Auditor, the Burleigh County Auditor, and vip.sos.nd.gov. Print the live notice, not a 2024 PDF.
This is not a Governor race. North Dakota’s Governor clock is a different office.

Filing for 2030: Petition/Certificate of Nomination with at least 300 city-resident signatures, Statement of Interests, nine months’ residency, age 18. Confirm the live deadline. A 6 April 2026 date is last cycle.
You are hiring the Mayor of Bismarck for this city — four years as President of a five-member commission, no veto, a City Administrator for the day, portfolios after the reorganization meeting. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan.
When a night went wrong on Fifth Street

Missouri flood. Prairie blizzard. Ice on the Memorial Bridge. Grass fire on the edge of town. Heat. Mutual aid with Mandan and the rural departments is real. Mandan is not Bismarck’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first.
911 is the life call. Administration and the city’s request tools are the next morning’s work order. Confirm flood and road closures on official city and National Weather Service products — not on a group chat.
What four prairie years buy
Four years of a part-time Mayor who presides and votes. Four Commissioners with portfolios. A City Administrator who still runs the day. Police night shift. Fire and EMS. Plows. Trash. Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A ladder company on a north-side block. Streetlights on a street that never makes a capitol-mall postcard.
The staff is the office. A serious Mayor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest request tickets, no rumor as policy. You are not hiring a Governor. You are not hiring a sheriff. You are not hiring Fargo. You are not hiring a strong Mayor this commission does not write.
The July 1 clock
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings, civil service. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. The 300-signature petition, the nine-month residency, the July 1 start — those are rights with a procedure, not slogans. Home-rule charter and Century Code set the dates. Do not teach a shortcut.
A vacancy is a commission machine. Confirm with the Auditor. A recall, if anyone files one, is a North Dakota statutory machine. Confirm with the Secretary of State, not with a thread.
Rights this river bank must not run over
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Fifth Street and in the neighborhoods — the capitol mall is state ground; the neighborhoods are city. Equal protection from the river bottoms to the north side. Speech. Religion. Disability access at the Auditor’s window. The right to a sample ballot that is the city’s, not a PAC’s.
The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Fargo is not this vote. November 2026 is not this race.
