Worcester was erected 1742 from Somerset and named for the Earl of Worcester. It is Maryland’s only Atlantic county. Snow Hill is the seat. Ocean City is the large municipality and the State’s well-known shore town. Ocean City is not the county government. Berlin and Pocomoke City sit on this map. They are not the hall. This is not Worcester, Massachusetts. This is not Worcester County, England. Salisbury is Wicomico. Princess Anne is Somerset. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and sits in Anne Arundel.

Worcester took code home rule in 1976. A seven-member Board of County Commissioners, one from each commissioner district, sits at One West Market Street, Snow Hill. A Chief Administrative Officer is appointed. There is no County Executive. There is no Worcester County Police Department. The Sheriff is primary law enforcement in the unincorporated county. Ocean City Police, Berlin Police, Pocomoke City Police, and Snow Hill Police are municipal. Maryland State Police is the state.
The Sheriff is four years, Article IV § 44, 2026 on the State Board of Elections local-office list. The Governor is also 2026 — a different desk. The Mayor of Ocean City is a town clock.
The Atlantic sits here. Worcester, Massachusetts, does not.
The Atlantic Ocean is east. The Pocomoke River is this inland water at Snow Hill. U.S. 50 and U.S. 113 are this pavement. Delaware sits north. Accomack County, Virginia, sits south. This is not Worcester, Massachusetts. This is not Salisbury as this hall. Staff who paste a Massachusetts shire courthouse onto Market Street, or an Ocean City boardwalk onto the county government center as the seat, are on the wrong county.

A family in Ocean Pines registers here, not in Wicomico. Each municipality has a site. Ocean City’s town site does not speak for Pocomoke. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for patrol, process, and court.

Crime in the unincorporated county — including Ocean Pines, Bishopville, and Stockton — is this Sheriff. Crime in Ocean City is often Ocean City Police. Jail as a local house is the Worcester County Jail at 5022 Joyner Road, Snow Hill, with a Warden appointed by and responsible to the County Commissioners. County Code is plain: the Warden operates the jail; people committed to the Sheriff’s custody are kept there under the Warden’s regulation. The county’s own jail page is a Commissioners department, not a Sheriff bureau. Civil process and Circuit Court security at One West Market Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Pocomoke. Remedy for Ocean City Police is the Town. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when a nor’easter hits Assateague is this count first.

A student uses town pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing. Wor-Wic Community College serves Worcester and Wicomico. It is a campus, not the Jail. Outreach that only knows a Ferris wheel photograph is not doing Stockton. Assateague is land, not a second sheriff.
