Montgomery was erected 1776 from Frederick and named for General Richard Montgomery. It is Maryland’s most populous county (2020 census: 1,062,061). Rockville is the seat. This is not Washington, D.C. This is not Montgomery, Alabama — that city is a different state’s capital. Germantown is the large place. It is not the hall. Silver Spring is this county. It is not the District. Staff who paste the Capitol onto Maryland Avenue, or an Alabama dome onto Monroe Street, are on the wrong county.

Crime in the unincorporated county is Montgomery County Police. Jail as a local house is DOCR. Civil process and Circuit Court security at 50 Maryland Avenue are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Germantown line. Remedy for MCPD is Police. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when the Potomac comes up at the C&O is this count first.
