Mobile County, Alabama, was erected 18 December 1812 (Mississippi Territory) and named for the Mobile people and the river that reaches the bay. The city of Mobile is the seat. The city of Mobile is also the large city. It is Alabama’s only deepwater port. It is not the capital of Alabama. Montgomery is the capital. It sits in Montgomery County. Baldwin is east across Mobile Bay. Bay Minette is that hall. Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Foley, Daphne, and Fairhope are Baldwin towns — they are not this hall. This is not Mobile as a Florida panhandle rumor. This is not Mobile County, Texas. Prichard, Saraland, Satsuma, Chickasaw, Semmes, Citronelle, Bayou La Batre, Creola, Dauphin Island, and Mount Vernon are municipalities in this county. They are not the county hall.

Mobile is a three-member County Commission, one commissioner per district. The presidency rotates among the three during the term. There is no elected County Executive. Commission offices sit at Mobile Government Plaza, 205 Government Street, Mobile, AL 36644. They fund roads, parks, two Sheriff substations, and Metro Jail. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Mobile City Council is a city body. Prichard City Council is a city body. Saraland is a city body.
The Mobile County Courthouse is at Government Plaza, 205 Government Street (13th Judicial Circuit — Mobile County alone). Circuit courtrooms sit on the 6th and 8th floors. District courtrooms sit on the 4th floor. Family Court lists at the Strickland Youth Facility, 2315 Costarides Street. The Circuit Clerk and Absentee Election Manager list that Government Street door. Confirm at mobilecountyal.gov and mobile.alacourt.gov. A city hall in Prichard is not this county.
The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Mobile is a city clock.

The Mobile River meets Mobile Bay. The Port of Mobile is the working waterfront. Interstate 10 crosses the bay toward Baldwin. Interstate 65 runs north. U.S. 90 and U.S. 98 are through roads. Dauphin Island Parkway is the barrier-island road — Dauphin Island is this county. Gulf Shores is Baldwin. Washington is north. Baldwin is east. The Gulf of Mexico is south. George, Jackson, and Greene counties in Mississippi are west. Staff who paste a Gulf Shores postcard onto Government Plaza, or treat Bay Minette as this hall, or file “Mobile as a Florida panhandle Sheriff,” are on the wrong county.

Confirm live addresses on those doors. A student who only knows a Gulf Shores photograph, or a generic cruise-port postcard that could be Florida, has not found this civic district.
Metro Jail is this Sheriff. Mobile PD does not jail the county remainder — and this Sheriff still holds the city's bookings too.
Crime in unincorporated Mobile — Theodore country, Semmes roads, the Dauphin Island remainder, Bayou La Batre’s county roads, Citronelle woods, Tillmans Corner frontage outside city limits — is this Sheriff. Crime in the city of Mobile is often Mobile Police. Crime in Prichard is often Prichard Police. Crime in Saraland, Satsuma, Chickasaw, Citronelle, Bayou La Batre, and Dauphin Island is often those municipal departments. This Sheriff is not Mobile PD. The Sheriff’s own pages say the office is responsible for Mobile County Metro Jail, average about 1,500 people a day, the detention facility for the county and the city of Mobile, plus a minimum-security barracks. That Corrections division is this Sheriff’s shop. It is not a separate county Department of Corrections that retired this jailer. It is not ADOC. Do not paste the ADOC Mobile work-release house in Prichard onto St. Emanuel. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to Mobile Police Headquarters or to Baldwin’s Hand Avenue jail. Civil process and court security at 205 Government Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the ship channel. Remedy for Mobile Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when a tropical night sits on the bay is this count first.

A peace order served in unincorporated Semmes. A transport from 450 St. Emanuel to 205 Government without becoming Mobile PD. A night road on Dauphin Island Parkway. Do not invent a church. Do not invent Mardi Gras as this oval.
What the only deepwater port county actually watches
Court calendars on Government Plaza. A wreck on I-10 over the bay, or on I-65 north of Prichard. Fog on the ship channel. A tropical watch on Dauphin Island. Coordination with Mobile PD, Prichard PD, and ALEA without becoming those departments. Coordination with Baldwin’s Sheriff is mutual aid between two offices, not a merger, and not a reason to file Gulf Shores as this hall. A Montgomery photograph does not steal the capital. A Florida panhandle rumor does not steal the seat.
