Lassen County, California, was created 1 April 1864 from Plumas and Shasta, and named for Peter Lassen — not for Lassen Volcanic National Park as this government (that park sits mostly in Shasta). Susanville is the county seat and the only incorporated city. Sacramento is the capital of California. Susanville is not the capital. Do not read this page as Autauga-with-sage. Clerk of the Board lists at 220 South Lassen Street, Suite 5 — behind the historic courthouse. They fund roads, the Riverside Hall of Justice, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Susanville City Council is a city body. The California Legislature sits in Sacramento. Washoe County commissioners sit in Nevada. None of those is this Board.
Lassen Superior Court lists the Hall of Justice at 2610 Riverside Drive — a consolidated 2012 hall that replaced the historic courthouse as the live court.
