Gloucester County, New Jersey

Gloucester County · Woodbury · the Delaware bank still hires a New Jersey county
Woodbury is the seat. Washington Township is not the courthouse.
Gloucester is a South Jersey county on the Delaware River, created 1686. Atlantic split off in 1837. Camden split off in 1844. Woodbury has been the seat since the courthouse moved here in the 1780s. Glassboro is a borough. Washington Township is the large township. Philadelphia is Pennsylvania. Trenton is the capital of New Jersey and sits in Mercer. Camden County is north. Salem is south — a later chapter. Cumberland is southeast. Gloucester is not Gloucester County, Virginia.
Twenty-four municipalities include Woodbury, Glassboro, Washington Township, Deptford, Monroe, Woolwich, Paulsboro, Pitman, Clayton, West Deptford, and the rest. Woodbury is this seat. Cherry Hill is Camden. Bridgeton is Cumberland. Newark is Essex.
This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — Justice Complex court security, ceremonial sales on Broad Street, not the Hunter Street jail — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Gloucester County.
Seven Commissioners, County Administrator, no Executive
Gloucester did not take the Optional County Charter Executive form. A seven-member Board of County Commissioners is the legislative board. A County Administrator is the statutory day-to-day officer (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-42). That is not Essex’s Executive in Newark. That is not Atlantic’s Executive on Atlantic Avenue. Camden also has seven Commissioners and is still a different river city.
The Sheriff is a constitutional officer, three years, Article VII, Section II, paragraph 2. The Commissioners fund the office. They do not hire this badge. Last regular sheriff general was 2024. Next regular is Tuesday, 2 November 2027. Tuesday, 3 November 2026 is not this oval. The Governor is 2029.
Delaware and Mantua Creek, not the Atlantic
The Delaware, Mantua Creek, Woodbury Creek, and inland farm-and-Pinelands edge are this water. I-295, Route 55, Route 45, and Route 322 are this pavement. Rowan University sits in Glassboro. No Boardwalk as the county hall. No Palisades as the county story. Staff who paste Philadelphia City Hall onto Broad Street are on the wrong county.
How a Woodbury public actually files a paper
Each municipality has a site. Glassboro’s site does not speak for Franklin. The Sheriff’s listing speaks for court, process, warrants, transport, and sales. The Gloucester County Department of Corrections at 70 Hunter Street is a Warden, not this Sheriff. The County Clerk lists in Woodbury; the Election Division also posts 550 Grove Road, West Deptford. Do not send a Woolwich family to Philadelphia City Hall for a New Jersey paper. Do not send them to Trenton for this badge.
Old Courthouse and Justice Complex, a jail that is Corrections
Crime in Washington Township is often that township’s police. Crime in Glassboro is often Glassboro Police. New Jersey State Police is the state. Civil process, Superior Court security at the Justice Complex, 70 Hunter Street, sheriff sales in the Old Courthouse, 1 North Broad Street, and fugitive work are this Sheriff. Jail as a local house is Hunter Street Corrections. Rights do not change at the Pitman line. Remedy for municipal police is that department. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when Mantua Creek floods Woodbury is this count first.
A student who stays on Broad Street
A student uses town pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing at 70 Hunter Street. Rowan is a campus in Glassboro. It is not the jail. Outreach that only knows one university is not doing Elk or South Harrison.
