Frederick was erected 1748 and named for Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore. It is Maryland Piedmont against the Catoctin. Frederick the city is the seat. Winchester, Virginia, is Frederick County, Virginia. Staff who paste a Shenandoah courthouse onto Patrick Street, or treat this as Carroll, are on the wrong county.
Places include Frederick, Brunswick, Thurmont, Emmitsburg, Middletown, Walkersville, New Market, Urbana, Jefferson, Myersville, and Mount Airy (split with Carroll). Frederick took charter home rule on 1 December 2014. The County Executive sits at Winchester Hall, 12 East Church Street. The County Council is seven — five by district and two at-large. Not Garrett’s three commissioners. Not Dorchester’s council-without-executive. Frederick Police, Brunswick Police, Thurmont Police, Emmitsburg Police, and Mount Airy Police are municipal. The Sheriff is primary law enforcement for the unincorporated county and still the jailer.
The Sheriff is four years, Article IV § 44, 2026 on the State Board of Elections local-office list. The Governor is also 2026 — a different desk. The Mayor of Frederick is a city clock.
Catoctin and the Monocacy, not a Shore marsh
The Catoctin is this ridge. The Monocacy is this river. I-70, I-270, and U.S. 15 are this pavement. Sugarloaf is this mountain on the Montgomery line. This is not a Bay county. This is not Ocean City. Staff who paste a Choptank skipjack onto Church Street, or a Virginia Winchester onto the clustered spires, are on the wrong county.

A family in Thurmont registers here, not in Washington County. Each municipality has a site. Frederick’s city site does not speak for Brunswick. Crime in unincorporated Frederick — including much of Urbana and the mountain north — is this Sheriff. Crime in the City of Frederick is often Frederick Police. Middletown contracts this Sheriff for town patrol. Jail as a local house is this Sheriff’s Adult Detention Center. Civil process and Circuit Court security at 100 West Patrick Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Walkersville line. Remedy for Frederick Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper or booking is the Sheriff. Relief when U.S. 15 ices at Catoctin is this count first.
Courts, Fort Detrick is federal, rights
A student uses city pages, the county jobs board, or the Sheriff’s official listing. Hood College and Mount St. Mary’s are campuses. They are not the Detention Center. Fort Detrick is federal. Outreach that only knows a cluster of spires is not doing Brunswick.
